WINGS: Leathery wings like a bat's are thinner than those of a birds. This enables the monkey to fly faster and make sharper turns than a bird. HANDS: Its five-fingered hands enable the monkey to grab girls and dogs. ARMS: Long, wiry arms enable the monkey to swing from tree to tree in the Haunted Forest and clamber over jagged rocks. LEGS: Powerful legs can grip their victims while flying with them back to their lair.
TAIL: The long tail grasps branches, enabling the monkey to hang from trees in the Haunted Forest.
In the land of Oz, there is a stone castle high atop a craggy mountain. This is home to the Wicked Witch of the West and her evil flying monkeys. The monkeys obey only the witch, who controls them with her magic hat. The flock of monkeys darken the skies above the countryside outside Oz's Emerald City. The grinning, hairy creatures are agile and scramble easily over any object in their path. Their great strength enables them to carry heavy loads for long distances while flying. The flying monkey troop make a terrible sound when assembled, whooping at a volume that can be heard in every corner of the Land of Oz.
The witch commands her monkey servants to fly, and soon the air is thick with the noisy beasts. Their orders are to bring Dorothy and her dog, Toto, back to the witch's castle so that she can steal Dorothy's ruby slippers. The flying monkeys rip apart Scarecrow, scattering the stuffing from his legs and chest. When Dorothy accidentally kills the witch, the monkeys are freed of the witch's spell and they bow down to Dorothy.
DID YOU KNOW? -After the monkeys fling Scarecrow's legs and chest in different directions, his friends Tin Man and Cowardly Lion have to restuff him before they can find Dorothy and save her from the witch.
