Chapter 5
Austin’s POV
“Okay, listen,” Austin’s mother said to him while walking with him to the principal’s office, “I know that you do not remember anything or anyone here, but try to take everything slowly. It is going to be hard for about a week, but I promise that everything will get better and you will start remembering things.”
Austin and his mother walked into the principal’s office and sat down in front of him. “Mr. Kendal, nice to have you back,” the principal said with a smile on his face.
Austin shook his and said, “Thank you Sir, it is nice to be here.”
“Now, I have been informed about your incident, and I want you to know that we are here for you. We have changed your schedule around from your normal schedule and have you in a class that is going to help you get back to where you are supposed to be,” explained the principal.
“Sir, if you don’t mind, I would like to try and take my regular classes the first day. The doctor told me that anything could trigger my memory, and I would like to give it a shot, if that is okay with you,” Austin said in a pleading tone.
Austin’s mother and the principal looked at each other, and she nodded. “This only comes with one stipulation Austin. If you start to be stressed out, you have to come back and see the principal to change your classes.
Austin thought about this for a moment and then agreed with his mom and the principal. “Promise, if anything goes wrong, I will excuse myself from class and let him know,” Austin said with a smile on his face.
“I am going to send my assistant with you for the rest of the day, Ian. That way he can talk to all of your teachers and let them know what is going on. Plus, he will be able to take you to all of your classes, seeing as how you don’t know how to get around here.” The principal stood and handed his assistant Austin’s schedule and sent them off.
“It was nice to meet you Sir,” Austin said, adding a firm handshake.
“Let me know if there are any problems,” retorted the principle.
With that, Austin and the principal’s assistant walked down the hall to his first class, math.
“I know that you do not know what is going on right now, but I assure you that I am here to help. My name is Ian, and I will be with you all the way.”
‘Ian, that is a nice name,’ Austin thought to himself. “I have no idea what is going to happen, but I am ready to take it on. My mother told me that I have always been very headstrong and like challenges,” Austin said while eyeing Ian in a smirk manner.
“Austin, where have you been?” Kristina asked with no concern in her voice.
“And you are…” Austin asked confused as to who this girl was.
“Very funny, now where have you been?” Kristina asked again, now starting to get aggravated.
“I do not like you tone, and I do not take likely to the way that you are talking to me. I do not even know who you are. Now, I will ask you again, who are you?” Austin asked getting annoyed with the girl.
“Have you lost your mind,” Kristina asked with her face painted with anger. “I am your girlfriend, and have been for the last year.”
Austin looked confused, and a little angry, about the way that the girl talked to him. “Well, it is nice to meet you, but let me explain something to you. I do not remember who you are, and I do not like the way that you are talking to me.” Students stopped and started watching the scene that was unfolding before their eyes. “You look to me like you are one of those spoiled little rich girls that get whatever she wants. Well, I am about to change that for you. I will no longer be your boyfriend. I will not associate with people like you, and would appreciate if you would not come around me again.”
Kristina looked around in annoyance, seeing all the faces of the onlookers. She shrieked as she stormed off.
He turned to look at Ian who looked dumbfounded at what had just happened. “Do you know what you just did?” Ian asked.
“I believe I just broke up with her.”
“You do know that she is the most popular girl in this school, right?” he asked with shock on his face.
“Well, to tell you the truth, it doesn’t really matter to me. I just don’t like the way that she acts.”
Ian stood there for a moment trying to gather himself, and then we walked off to go to class with Austin in tow.
“Ian, I know that you must be bored sitting through all my classes with me, but I just want to say thanks.” I knew that there had to be other things that he needed to do, and it was nice to have someone to have for support.
Ian looked at me, and I could tell that he did not mind. “Austin, listen. I know that it might be hard, but I am here to help you. I don’t mind being here at all,” he said.
The day continued with me going through all of my classes. All of my teachers greeted me knowing who I was, but I felt bad that I did not know any of them. At the end of the day, I had to stop by the principal’s office where Ian and I had to give a report of my day.
“So Austin,” the principal started, “how was it? Did you have any problems?”
“To be honest sir, it seemed to be pretty easy,” I said.
“Sir, he did very well actually. The teachers asked questions, and Austin did pretty well answering questions and asking when he did not understand something,” Ian stated.
The principal looked at me and paused before asking his next question. “Do you think you would like to continue trying to take your regular classes, or would you rather switch to the other classes?”
I took a moment to think about my choices, thinking about what would be best for me. “Sir, I would like to continue to take my regular classes, but I would like to ask a favor of you.” I looked at Ian and looked back at the principal. “I would be very grateful if you would let Ian continue to go to my classes with me.” I looked at Ian and noticed the look on his face. It looked as though he was shocked and confused. “I know that it is a lot to ask, but it is nice to have someone to help me through all of this.”
Ian and the principal looked at me for a moment before the principal answered. “Honestly, I have thought about the same thing. I knew that if you did make this decision, you would need some kind of support during this transition. But before I make a decision, I would like to know what you think about this Ian.”
Ian looked at me, then looked at the principal and then looked back at me. Was there something wrong with what I was asking? “Sir, do you think that Austin and I could have a word for a moment?” Ian asked.
“Sure, take your time.”
Ian and I walked out the door into the waiting room in front of the principal’s office. “Austin, are you sure that is a good idea?”
“Yes, actually I do.”
“Austin, I have to tell you something, and I hope that it does not affect the way that you think about me. Nevertheless, I have to be honest. I am gay.”
“Okay.”
“You mean you don’t care?”
“No, I don’t mind. I knew that you were gay.”
“How did you know? I have never told anyone here. I have only told my parents.”
“I don’t know honestly, but I did know. Have we met before today?”
“No, actually, we haven’t.”
“So, will you?”
Ian stood there for a moment in the midst of pondering the situation. “Sure,” was the answer that he have and God did that make me happy.
Ian and I walked back in to principal’s office and sat back down in our seats.
“Sir, I will agree to it,” Ian said with a smile on his face.
“Aright then, make sure that you two are in my office first ting in the morning for your schedules. I know that you are used to your classes right now, but to get you both in the same classes together, there are going to have to change a little bit.”
