Chapter 7
Austin’s POV
“Ian, I know that it is Friday, but I was wondering if you would like to come over to my house this weekend?” I asked. I know that he might have other people to hang out with, but I do not really have anyone to hang out with. I looked at him while he pondered the question.
“I guess so. Are you just talking about today, or the entire weekend?” Ian asked.
“Whichever you want, really,” I answered. I would enjoy the entire weekend.
“Let me call my dad and ask him. I will let you know at lunch,” he said and smiled.
I really like his smile. He has perfectly straight white teeth, he has beautiful blond hair, and his eyes are like looking into a sea of emeralds. They are so beautiful. He is so funny, and easy to get along with. I do not really care that he is gay. He really is a great person.
Thankfully, lunch came quickly. Ian and I met up at his locker as usual and started walking to the lunchroom. As we were walking, I stopped to tie my shoe. As I stood up, I felt someone lay their hand on my shoulder. At first, I thought it was Ian, and then the grip got tighter.
I turned to see someone start to throw a punch, and moved to the side quickly. Who is this person?
“I bet you thought you could avoid me all week. I told you I would get you.”
“I am sorry, and you are?” I asked in confusion.
“Don’t act stupid, I am going to kick your ass.”
I looked at Ian for only a second to ask whom this guy was, and saw a fist flying my way. I quickly dodged it and stepped aside again. This guy was serious.
“I told you, I am going to kick your ass, and that is what I intend to do.”
I looked at the boy in utter confusion. “I honestly don’t know who you are.” Someone stepped in and told him that I had no memory of the last sixteen years.
“I don’t give a shit. Let me refresh your memory. I am Justin, the boy that was in love with Kristina. You took her from me, and I am going to kick your ass, right here and right now.”
“Justin, listen, I do not date Kristina anymore. If you want to date her, you have my blessing.” What else could I say? I have no idea what is going on around here. It is not as if I can learn everything in my past in one week.
Just as I finished my sentence, Justin through another punch. I dodged it again, getting tired of this. I grabbed his hand and twisted with it. Suddenly, Justin brought his foot up to kick me, and I blocked it with my own leg. I dodged three more punches and threw one myself. Justin stumbled backwards and hit the wall. I could tell by the look on his face he was getting angry. I never knew that I could even fight.
Justin ran forward to tackle me, so I stepped to the side grabbed his hand, swung him around, and lifted his hand up his back. I knew that he was in pain by the look on his face. “Listen Justin, the only way that I am going to let you go is if you agree that you will leave me alone.”
“Fine, but I am still going to kick your ass. It might not be today or tomorrow, but you are going to get what you have coming to you,” Justin yelled and I let him go.
I let him go, and then Ian and I started walking to the lunchroom. “Have you asked your dad if you can come over this weekend?”
“I did and he said that it was okay. He even said that it was a good idea if I did stay all weekend if that is okay,” Ian answered with a smile, but there was another look in his face, and it was sadness. I will have to ask him about that later.
“Great. Sounds like a plan.” For some reason I was actually happy about it, and probably more than I should be.
(Later that day, after school has ended)
Finally, the day was over and it was time to go home. My mother thinks that it is wonderful that I have a new friend. I have to wonder if I had friends before all of this happened to me. I guess I will find out eventually. I have not really been around anyone except Ian all week. Not that I minded, he is a very nice person and it has been great to have someone to talk to and confide in.
“Hey Ian, are you ready to go?” I asked and could not wait to get home.
“Yeah, I just need to stop by my locker and put some things away.”
We made our way to Ian’s locker and I noticed there were some things about him that I could not place my finger on. I know that he knew a lot about me, but there is not much that I know about him. I am going to have to change that this weekend. “So, you ready to go?”
“Yeah, are we driving?” Ian asked.
“Yeah, I am parked right outside.”
After an uneventful ride home, we finally made it. It seems that Ian is a little nervous, but then again, so am I. I know this is all new to him, but it is even newer to me. There are so many things that I want to talk to Ian about, but first things first, I need some food. “Ian, are you hungry? I need food.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“What do you like?”
“I am not picky.”
“Cool. So what do you want to do?”
“Anything is good with me. Like I said, I am not picky.”
“Hey, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?”
“No, I don’t mind, go ahead.”
I rather feel bad about asking this first question, but I really have to know. “If you don’t mind me asking, how did you know that you were gay?”
“Well, if you were anyone else, I would ask you ‘How did you know that you were straight?’, but seeing as you might not know, I guess I don’t mind actually explaining it. Although you are going to have to bear with me, it is a long and painful story.”
“I don’t mind, take your time.”
“I had a friend a few years ago, and we were very close. It actually turned out that I grew to actually have a lot of feelings toward him. I actually managed to grow enough courage to tell him about it and to my surprise, he had the same feelings for me.” He paused for a minute and I could tell that even just telling the beginning of the story, he was a little overwhelmed with his past emotions. “We started secretly dating, but only because we did not know how we truly felt, and thought that it would be best if we kept it in the dark till we both knew.”
“It just so happens that we did end up falling for one another. I know that this is going past your question, but I would like to finish my story. We met up one night, and decided to go on a date, and after that, we would tell our parents. We went to watch a movie and afterwards, we were going to grab a bite.”
I noticed that there must have been something that went wrong because it looked as if he were about to start crying. “Ian, are you okay? You don’t have to finish if you don’t want to.”
“No, I am fine. I want to finish telling you. I don’t know why, but I feel like I can tell you things.” He paused for a moment, and then continued with his story. “After we finished with the movie, we walked outside and started talking. There was a restaurant right down the road about a block, so we decided to walk instead of driving. Suddenly, there was a guy that walked out in front of us and he had a gun. He told us to give him our wallets and we would not get hurt. I gave the guy my wallet and just as John started to give the guy his, I guess he thought that John was trying to make some kind of move. John was just as nervous and scared as I was, so he was kind of fumbling for his wallet and he shot him, right in the chest. The guy ran, and I called the 911, and they got there and took John to the hospital, but he died right after we got to the hospital.”
