The dark side

*Hope's pov*
The next morning, we woke up and we wanted to explore the city to it's fullest. Alaric stayed at the house to relax. Me, Josie, Lizzie and Caroline went to visit. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and everyone was enjoying the day. We were walking down the street when I noticed something weird. There were people following us. I started to look around to count how many of them there were. They were 5 and they all had day light rings. "Is everything okay?" Josie asked when she noticed I was acting weird. "Yeah" I lied. Caroline and I made an eye contact and she understood. She looked behind her and stopped walking. The people who were following us stopped walking as well. "Girls, go back to the villa with Hope" she said coming closer to us. "What's happening?!" Lizzie asked. Me and Caroline looked at each other wondering if we should tell them. "Seriously, what are you guys not telling us" Josie asked looking at me. "There are vampires following us" I finally said. Josie and Lizzie suddenly looked worried. "Now, go!" Caroline said. "What are you going to do?" I asked her. "I'm going to lead them to the forest so you guys can go and warn Alaric while I fight them" she explained. "No! They're 5 and you can't fight them by your own" Lizzie said. "Yes I can" she said calmly. "Come on, let's go" I said dragging the girl. We all ran away and when we were a far from them, we split. We ran back to the villa. I looked back and they weren't following us so I believed that our plan worked.

We got home and told Alaric what happened. "Stay here girls, I'm going to go find your mother" Alaric said. "No!" I said holding him back. "I'm going" I said. "I have supernatural powers and you don't" I said. Alaric didn't say anything because he knew I was right. "I have to go" I said. I looked at Josie. "I'm coming back soon" I said. She shooked her head. "Josie everything is going to be fine" I said putting my hand on her cheek. "In the worst case, I have vampire blood in my veins" I said. "I want you to grow old with me" she whispered. "I will. I promise" I said before I ran away.

After long minutes, I finally found Caroline. She was still fighting. There were 3 bodies on the ground. She looked really injured but she kept fighting. I got closer to her to help her. I grabbed a branch off the ground and stabbed one of them. I turned around to kill the other one and I saw something horrible. I saw Caroline with a stake in her heart. I felt a wave of anger in my body. I took his heart out and got closer to Caroline. She was slowly dying. "Tell the girls.. I love them" she said with a lot of difficulty. "No, you're going to tell them by yourself" I said. I closed my eyes and tried to think of a spell that could save her. I remembered that one spell in Esther's grimoire. It could bring people back from death but the witch who uses it will be possessed by black magic. I was completely ready to take the risk. I started to throw the spell and I felt really sick but I continued. When I was done, I felt like I was about to faint. I felt on the ground. The last thing I saw was Josie and Alaric running in our direction.

When I woke up, Lizzie was by my side. "It worked!" She exclaimed with an excited face when she was me moving. "What happened" I asked sitting on the bed. "You did a spell to save my mom but you got possessed by some kind of black magic. I siphoned it from you and I'm going to put it in one of the guy you killed" she said. "How's Caroline?" I asked. Her smile quickly disappeared. "Is she still..?" I asked suddenly thinking of the worst. "Yes she's still alive but in really bad condition. Your spell brought her back to life but she isn't healing which is weird. My dad called your family and they said that when we were coming back, we should go to New Orleans so they could try to heal her" she explained to me. "Where's Josie?" I asked her just now noticing that she wasn't here. She didn't say anything. "Lizzie?" I said. "When we found you two, she was really shocked. You guys looked dead. She thought she was going to loose two of the people she cares about the most. She started to isolate herself and she stopped talking to us. I could feel that she was really angry" she said. "Where is she?" I asked. "Outside I think" she said. I got up. "Thank you, Lizzie" I said hugging her. "You're my sister-in-law, I would do everything for you" she said. "I love you" I said. "Don't get to emotional" she said laughing. "See you later" I said walking out the room.

I got outside and started to look around for her. I didn't find her so I got back home. Alaric was with Caroline in the basement. I was sitting in the living room waiting for Josie to show up. It was 11 pm when I heard her opening the door. I got up to welcome her. "Hi" I said walking in her direction to hug her. She made a step back. I stopped moving. "Josie?" I said. "What" she said with a cold tone. "Aren't you happy to see me?" I asked. "Yeah" she said without any emotion in her voice. "I'm tired" she said going to our room. She walked by me and didn't even look in my direction. When I got back to our room, she was already in bed. I got ready to sleep and went to bed. I layed beside her. That night, it was the first time we slept without cuddling. We weren't even facing each other. Something was definitely wrong with Josie.

Later that night, I got woken up by a sound in our room. I got up quickly and opened the light. I saw Josie dressing herself. "What are you doing?" I asked rubbing my eyes. "I'm going to go find who did this to my mom and kill him" she said putting one of her shoe on. "No you're not. You're not a muderer Josie. I won't let you do this" I said getting closer to her. "Don't try to stop me. You could get injured" she said. "I won't just stand there and watch you die. You don't have healing powers and you don't even have magic on your own" I said. "I have to do this and you have to let me" she said walking in the door's direction. I got between her and the door. "Josie what's wrong with you?" I asked. "Nothing" she said. "Don't lie to me. Just go back to bed with me. We will find a way to get revenge eventually" I explained. Her stare suddenly got less angry. "You're right" she whispered. I opened my arms to hug her. She came closer and wrapped her arms around my neck. "Don't try to stop me" she whispered. I heard her throwing a spell. I recognized it. It was a spell to make people faint. I slowly felt like my body weighted a ton and I fell on the ground. I felt somebody grabbing me and putting me on the bed. "Josie" I whispered with difficulty. "I'm coming back soon" she said walking away.

I woke up and looked at the time. I was only unconscious for 10 minutes. I woke up Lizzie and Alaric to explain everything and asked them if they had an idea of where she could've went. "I saw her looking at an old abandoned house" Lizzie said. "I'm going now" I said. "I'm coming" Lizzie said. "Me too" Alaric said. "She could hurt you two" I said. "She may be your wife, but she's still my daughter" Alaric told me. "Let's go" I said walking away.

We drove all the way there and we got in. Lizzie was right. Josie was there. I guy was laying on the ground close to the door frame. I squatted beside him and fortunately, he was still breathing. I asked Lizzie to take care of him amd she did. Me and Alaric walked in and Josie was there, standing in front of a man with a sharp piece of glass in her hand. She was about to kill him. "Stay there" I whispered to Alaric. I got between her in the guy she was about to kill. "Josie don't do that" I said. "Please have mercy" the guy said. I turned around and shut him off. "He needs to pay" Josie said. "Get out of my way or you will be the one who gets hurt" she said taking a step closer. I also did. "Hurt me" I said. She sliced my arm with the glass. I didn't flinch. I knew I was doing something stupid but it was the only way I could've found to stop her from hurting someone. She put the glass on my stomach and scratched it. Suddenly, she stabbed my shoulder. "Hope move!" Alaric shouted. "Leave" I yelled. "Now" I added still starring at Josie. He did knowing that if I was making this decision, it was the best one. "Don't you have enough?" Josie asked me. "I barely felt anything" I lied to provoke her. She sliced me again and again. My clothes were falling apart and my body started to get weaker. "End me" I said. She put her piece of glass on my troat. I didn't do anything. I could've deflected the attack easily but I didn't do anything. She looked at me in the eyes. "I love you" I whispered. I saw her eyes getting tearful. She pushed me away. She put her head in her hands and started to yell. "Josie.." someone said from the door frame. I looked around to see Caroline standing there. Josie hugged her. "I'm okay" Caroline whispered. Josie looked around to look at me. I saw that she was 'normal' again. I couldn't stand on my feet anymore. I fell on my knees. Josie kneeled in front of me. "I'm sorry" she said. "It's okay" I said. I already lost a lot of blood and I wasn't feeling really well. My lids became heavier and I fell on the ground. The last voice I heard was Josie's. "Hope! Hope wake up!" I heard before total blackout.
