Thirty seconds later, I was safely back inside my own home. Catching my breath, I went upstairs and took my time taking off my shoes. Eventually, my heart rate slowed back down to a normal pace and I undressed the rest of the way. I put on the same pair of red sleep shorts and black tank top from the night before and sat on my bed, thinking.
Before I'd left, Michael told Sam and I that he was going to work things out. I wondered how he was planning on doing that? As far as I knew, there wasn't a way to turn yourself back human...the only solution to vampirism was death.
*Tap**Tap**Tap*
The sound of something hitting my window made me turn around to it. When I looked, Alan sat crouched outside, giving me a small smile. I returned it and moved to open my window for him to get in, helping him climb through onto my bed.
"Are you alright?" Alan asked when he was in.
I immediately threw my arms around him, hugging him tightly.
"I am now that you're here."He pulled me closer to him.
"What happened?"I replayed the story briefly in my head, making sure I had everything straight before going to speak.
"Sam asked me to come over and hang out tonight, so I did. I was waiting for him in his room while he was in the bathroom when his brother Michael came upstairs and started acting weird. When I tried to ask him if he was ok that's when he turned to me and I saw that he had fangs, so I locked myself in Sam's room, but he wasn't after me. Instead he went for Sam, whose dog attacked Michael and knocked him down the stairs. Sam and I went downstairs to see what'd happened and this is where we saw that Michael barely had a reflection in a mirror, you could see right through him! Both of us ran back upstairs and locked ourselves in Sam's room. That's when we called you guys."Alan listened intently, nodding occasionally.
"Then what?""After talking to you and Edgar, Sam's mom called and Michael started freaking out again. Somehow he started flying and was floating outside of Sam's window, which made Sam start screaming and caused his mom to start panicking. When she hung up the phone Sam got up and him and Michael started shouting back and forth at one another, until Sam finally opened the window and pulled him in. Michael seemed to be alright after he was inside and he assured Sam and I that he was going to figure things out." I finished explaining.
Alan stared at his lap while he processed my story. A few moments later he replied.
"And how is he thinking of doing that?"I shrugged.
"I don't know. He didn't have time to explain it because that's when their mom got home and I left. He just told us to trust him.""How are you holding up then, after tonight?" Alan questioned, his hand running gently over my side.
A shiver ran up my back and I gulped thinking back to all that had happened.
"I'm honestly terrified of this whole situation...I've never been scared of anything before...until now..."Adopting a softer expression, Alan pulled me into his lap, both of his arms wrapping tightly around me. I buried my face in his chest and shook again as a feeling of fear washed over me.
"It's ok, I'm here." Alan calmed me, gently stroking my hair.
As he held me, all of the emotions from tonight began to get to me. Tears welled up in my eyes and a few of them started to fall as I sniffled into Alan's chest. He looked down at me and wiped some of the fresh drops away with his thumb, making me stare up at him.
My voice came out as a whimper.
"I'm really scared, Alan..."He ran one hand up and down my back and the other was on my head, holding me against him gently. He planted a kiss on my head.
"They're not going to hurt you, Katie. And if they try, I'll kill every last one of them. I'm right here with you, babe - whatever is out there, I'll protect you from it. Nothing is going to get to you."
