One vampire left, but which one was it?
I nudged Sam in the chest with my hand, getting his attention.
"Sam, which of the vampires did you kill downstairs?"He thought for a moment before speaking.
"Um, he had long, dark hair."My blood ran icy cold as my complexion paled. Shit.
"You got Dwayne....which means that David is still alive..."At my words, Star paused from talking to Laddie and stared over at me. Her face scrunched into a worried look.
This is when I thought of something else. My eyes went wide as I hit Sam's chest a bit harder this time.
"Wait, Sam, where's Michael?"The blonde glanced from me to the doorway where he'd came in. He shrugged.
"He was right behind me when I was coming up here."I gulped and shared a look with Star. My expression was all she needed to see in order for her stand up and go running out of the room. As she entered the hallway and ran down the stairs, she yelled out.
"MICHAEL!!"Flickering my eye between Edgar, Alan and then finally Sam, I gestured with my head out the way Star had gone. Sam swallowed once and nodded, taking the lead and darting out of the room. He looked back at us.
"Come on!"The brothers and I followed Sam out into the hallway and down the stairs into the living room. The place was a mess! The wooden light fixture that hung from the ceiling was now splintered to pieces around the floor. However, the lights on the main part of the fixture were still lit, but the wires had crossed during whatever happened and the light being given off was now red. It illuminated the whole room in the blood-like color.
Joining the splinters of wood on the floor were chunks of what was left of Dwayne. His separate limbs layed strewn about everywhere near the big stereo in the room. It didn't take a genius to figure out that Dwayne was definitely the "some explode" vampire.
Racing down the stairs, the boys and I could faintly make out a body laying in Grandpa Emerson's workshop. We ran through the living room, jumping over the destroyed furniture. Sam tried calling his brother's name a few times, but didn't get an answer. The four of us stopped and stood in a line in front of the body, which we could now plainly see was David. He had been impaled through the chest by a set of antlers sitting on the work bench. He was dead.
Alan broke out into a victorious grin upon seeing David's body. He cheered.
"Yeah!"I leaned over and kissed his cheek, making him smile wider - but our celebration was short lived. Because now Michael's voice came from the side of us, low and gravely.
"Get away, Sam..." He growled.
The four of us looked to our left and saw Michael. He held Star in front of him to hide his face from us.
Sam's face and voice contorted with worry.
"Mike, what's wrong?""I SAID GET AWAY!!" Michael shouted in reply. He sounded very unstable...
"What's the big deal? You destroyed the head vampire! It's all over!" Edgar wondered.
He was right. All of the vampires, including the leader were now dead. But...
"Nothing's changed." Michael informed.
"He's right - I don't feel any different." Star agreed, her voice just a whimper.
Hearing this, the boys turned to me. I gave them a sad look and shook my head.
"I don't either."
Saying this made Alan pull me into him, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. I put a hand to his chest and stared over at the others.
"David wasn't the head."
