Sorina's POV:
As I finished tying my hair up in a loose bun, a light tapping sound was heard from the other side of my door. "Yes?" I called out. "You have a visitor, dear." William told me before quietly whispering, "come quickly before my wife tears his head off." My eyebrows scrunched up in confusion before rushing out of my room. A visitor? I don't typically get visitors, let alone a male. Unless...
Sure enough, as I reached the middle of the staircase, I saw him. Thomas was standing by the entrance in all his glory, seemingly unfazed by Louis silent but obviously you hate-filled glare. The older woman looked at him as if the devil himself possessed him. This reaction of hers struck me as odd. The man I met previously was a kind, funny man. Perhaps, after the war, something changed in him? Or I'm missing something entirely. His striking Blueeyes targeted me immediately. "Mr. Shelby. What an unexpected surprise." I smile, which went unreturned. "Care to take a walk with me, Miss Tempest?" That was an unexpected proposition. I looked between Lilith and William before nodding my head. "That sounds lovely. Allow me to grab my coat." Moments later, the pair of us had wandered into the streets, beginning our small yet quiet adventure. We had walked many a street and throughout this escapade I noticed two things. The first thing was that Thomas had no intention of speaking to me yet. The second was the strange attention we had received from passerby's. It felt as if I were walking with Polly again except amplified by 10.
After about 10 or so minutes of walking, I realized where he was taking me; the Church. "I thought you weren't a religious man?" I questioned as he held the door for me. "I'm not." Was the only response I had received from him before he escorted me down the aisle. I immediately did the sign of the cross out of respect. "Glad your faith didn't waver during the war." I shook my head at him. " my faith in humanity wavered. Not in God." I corrected him. He gave a small nod before we turned our attention towards the cross, falling silent once more.
" so, tell me. What is your plan to bring me on a walk strictly to not talk to me or did you plan a conversation?" He gave a light chuckle at my question before returning to his professional manner. " polly says you moved here because of your father." I nodded. "He's very sick at the moment. He didn't want me around for the end."
"I'm sorry." I waved my hand at him dismissively. "We all have a time to go. It just so happens to be his." Thomas stared at me for a good half a minute in silence before questioning my seemingly indifferent perspective of death. "It could be because of how much of Death I've seen already...or, perhaps, it's because I very truly...don't want him to suffer anymore." He seemed to ponder my response carefully in his head. I wonder what runs through a brain like Thomas Shelby's. "Where did they send you after you left our camp?" I sighed quietly and looked down at my hands, my fingers fidgeting lightly in my lap. I always dread this conversation due to the sensitivity of the subject. "Germany." His eyebrows shot up in surprise, turning his body to look at me fully. "They sent you behind enemy lines?" I nodded quietly. Thomas could tell by my expression that this conversation bothered me, to which he thankfully changed it. He asked me questions and I answered the best I could. This went on for a good hour before he called it quits. "Do you have any plans tonight?"
"No, sir. Why do you ask?" Thomas stood up to leave, me quickly following suit. "Would you care to join me for dinner?" He asked, holding his arm out for me to take. I gave him my best smile and gently grabbed the crook of his arm, allowing him to escort me towards the door. "I would be honored, Mr. Shelby." The walk back to the Bed and Breakfast was similar to our walk to the Church, exempt people were staring in absolute bewilderment at my hold of his arm. I wonder, why are people so invasive with their stares? Quite infuriating, truth be told. Thomas led me up the stairs to the entrance, watching me teach for the handle. "How does six o'clock sound?" He asked. "Sounds perfect. Thank you for the nice stroll, Mr. Shelby."
"Thomas." He corrected me. I smiled up at him again. "I'll see you tonight, Thomas." He fixed the cap on his head before heading back down the stairs. "Dress to your very best! You're going to love it." He called over his shoulder. "Will do!" I called back before heading inside. I found Lilith sitting at the bottom of the staircase, staring worriedly at the door. She immediately stood to her feet once she saw me. "How did it go?"
"It was lovely, Lilith. In fact, we'll be having dinner later this evening." I swear I saw fear in the older woman's eyes before giving me a small smile. "That's wonderful, dear." I smiled back at her. "Just...be safe, love." Was her last words to me before she went to the kitchen, leaving me alone in silence. Her words confused me. Of course I'm safe. Why wouldn't I be?Hey everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that due to me not having a computer, I'll be writing this story and my many others on my phone!
