(A/N) wow, we're almost to 20 chapters! :O And I released a chapter so soon after the last one! (even though it's a bit shorter, because I love the cliffhanger so much I couldn't just let it go. ((frozen is getting to me)) ) Thank you all for so much love and support! Also, I'm working on my laptop now, and the website version of Wattpad is the definition of trash. It makes texting y'all a lot harder, (it shows the notification but doesn't show the message D: ) the enter key is weird, and I can't switch as seamlessly between chapters as I could on mobile. Also, I can't add pictures that easily anymore. But I'll manage somehow. Anyway, y'all are the best, and I couldn't have wished for a better audience. Mwah! <3
Loves,

"Merlin, I hate him so much," I said under my breath as Malfoy's back got farther away. What a barbaric person. No doubt he prattled to his Father about me, being a muggleborn and all. But why me, specifically? There are lots of others like me in school. Hogwarts isn't exactly small. I took a deep breath. Why waste time and energy on people like him? I had better things to do. Like finish shopping, for one."Come on guys, let's go." I started out of the bookshop and into the busy streets of Diagon Alley

"You better hurry up, sweetie. The train's about to leave," Mum said gently but urgently.
"I know, but... they should be here by now," I mumbled, combing the crowd with my eyes for any sign of Harry and Ron. Nothing. Then, I saw a blob of red hair hurrying towards the train. The Weasleys! I breathed a sigh of relief. Harry was probably with them. Well, at least they made it.
"The train is about to leave! All students must board the Hogwarts Express immediately if they wish to get a ride!" the conductor called.
"Just get on, Mia. They'll find you on the train," my dad urged, pushing me gently towards the train.
"But... alright." I saw no point in arguing. It was a good idea, after all. The blob of red in the sea of people was getting closer. Harry and Ron could meet me on the train. I hugged my parents one last time, then jogged up to the train. I handed my ticket to the ticket collector and found an empty cabin towards the middle. I dropped my bag of supplies (mostly books though) onto the seat and sat down.
"The train is leaving!" I could hear the conductor shout as the train started moving slowly. I looked out the window and waved to my parents, who were looking teary-eyed. Then, when I could no longer see the platform, I dropped my hand and began to wait.
Minutes ticked by. No Harry or Ron. I started to get anxious. Where were they? I'm sure they made it onto the train, I just saw the Weasleys. My knee started to bounce up and down, an odd habit I had developed when I got nervous. Where in the world had they gone? When I could stand it no longer, I threw open the train room door and looked up and down the aisle frantically. Had they gotten attacked or something? I started hyperventilating. What if they got kidnapped by someone while going through the crowd? I'm sure no one would have noticed, because it was so busy. Or maybe they just slept in late and forgot the boys at home? No one would have noticed, because it was so busy. Or what if they tripped and fell before they got onto the train? No one would have noticed, because, as I said, it was so busy. Or, what if, they just didn't want to sit with me? I couldn't understand that one. I didn't think I did anything to offend them. I laughed lightly and brushed that one off. I'm sure they didn't. Right? Maybe something else.
Finally, I saw a hint of red in one of the glass doors near the front and headed towards it. It was Ginny, the youngest Weasley, chatting excitedly with a couple of other first-years. I could hear them talk animatedly about how big Hogwarts was going to be, how cool, what they would study. I chuckled to myself. Well, they sure wouldn't be disappointed. I hated to interrupt their conversation, but Harry and Ron's life could be in danger. I pushed the door open and poked my head in.
"Hey. Sorry to interrupt, but, Ginny, have you seen Harry and Ron anywhere?" I said, looking at the 11-year-old girl.
"Yeah. They were just with us. I remember telling them to hurry up and go into the wall," she answered matter-of-factly.
Well, that was a relief. At least they didn't forget them at home. But did they make it onto the train? I asked the girl that question.
She paused for a moment before answering. "Yeah, I think so."
"You think so?" I suddenly started to hyperventilate again.
Ginny paused again, but this time, her voice was more confident. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure." 'Pretty sure' was almost a 'yes.' My breathing slowed.
"Okay, thanks Ginny."
I closed the door and started to walk back to my train room. But something sharp poked at the back of my mind. If they made it onto the train, why wouldn't they want to sit with me? Did they find someone else to befriend already? And they ditched me, just like that? I felt the sting of tears threatening to spill. Squeezing my eyes shut, I told myself it was going to be okay. I could make new friends. Nobody needed those boys anyway. There were a lot of other students at Hogwarts, it's not like there weren't a ton of nice ones. But friends were friends. I thought they cared.
I swiped at my eyes with the back of my hand. Stop it, Hermione. Get over it. It's not like you literally survived certain death with them last year. You can find new friends. New friends.
I was repeating those two words all the way back to my train room, and took a lot of deep breaths. I had mostly gotten over them and convinced myself that if I made friends last year, this year should be no trouble. I was prepared, with a speech to them when we got there about how I didn't care about their friendship and everything. But I was not prepared for what I saw in the room.
