Chapter 24

How this guy was standing was beyond Emi. He had taken Miyaka's barrier explosion straight on and she could see parts of his insides were she had hit him. So how was he standing she will never know but it was wearing him down, she could see it. His legs were shaking wanting to collapse on him and his eyes were clouded in some sort of daze.

He lunged at Emi again but Hidan's scythe was swung at his face and he reared back avoiding its blade.  Emi moved forward removing her glove and sliced the air in front of her causing wind to slice through Hidan's arm cutting it clean off and hitting the man in the chest.  His barrier went up protecting him from her attack and sliced the trees in half behind him.

"Fuckface," Emi muttered under her breath.  Kakuzu was standing behind her so he heard her and raised an eyebrow in her direction.  She was never one to swear when she did do it, the cause was usually Tobi or she was really angry.

Hidan and Miyaka were glaring at each other not looking away like their life depended on it.  The man took his kunai ready to stab Miyaka in the back, she stepped to the side putting her arm at the base of his neck and pushing him towards Hidan which stabbed his scythe through his lower abdomen.  He stubbled back surprised a bit then a glowing kunai was shoved through his chest making him turn to dust.

Miyaka held on to the kunai tightly.  She didn't like the look Hidan was giving her, he was going to strike any moment she could feel it down to her bones.  She glanced at Kakuzu which had just as a bloodthirsty glare.

Bad move.

Hidan's blade swung right for her, she twisted but one of the longer blades caught her upper arm gashing it badly.  Blood was already rushing down her arm dripping off her fingertips to the ground.  Pulling the weapon near his face her watched her movements carefully before going to lick it. 

Miyaka bounded forward grabbing his arm that was holding the weapon and twisting it in an awkward way.  She put her foot in between two of the blades and kicked it away from him lodging it in a tree. 

Shoving him to the ground she stabbed the kunai through his shoulder pinning him to the spot.  She was heaving with heavy breaths her eyes were in a slight panic her hands shaking with the adrenaline that had been pumping through her veins.

Hidan scowled at her from below and went to grab her arm, she twitched and grabbed her kunai yanking it out of his shoulder causing him to curse and jumping back as tentacles came right at her.  She put up her barrier as they tried to reach her but they disintegrated once they touched it.

Miyaka grabbed her wound putting pressure on it to try and slow the bleeding.  She backed up towards the trees slowly, carefully watching them with wary eyes.

Kakuzu grabbed Hidan's arm while he glared at Miyaka and walked over to him sewing it back on.

Miyaka knew that she was going to have to fight and run, and it was going to be hard.

'Two against one....yup that's completely fair' she thought bitterly to herself.

There was no way she could fight both of them in her condition.  She had used quite a bit of chakra with the other guy there was no way she could fight two of the Akatsuki members on her own without getting badly beaten.

"Mi....yaka....."

She tensed and looked down at Maki he was holding his wound in his body.  she had to force herself not to run over to him and comfort him the best she could.  She knew deep down that he wasn't going to make it. Not with how much blood he's lost.

She could feel the tears in her eyes before they silently slid down her cheeks.  

"Sensei."

Her eyes snapped to her former student.

"Go and say goodbye to him properly."  Her voice was stern and filled with sadness.

Miyaka looked at where Kakuzu and Hidan were positioned.  Hidan turned his head away from her looking into the forest.

Never taking her eyes off of them she slowly made her way over to where Maki was laying face up watching her closely.  She kneeled down beside him grabbing his hand gently and put it on her cheek and leaned into his hand closing her eyes.

She put a small barrier up around the two of them in case the other two Akatsuki members tried to attack her.  The look in their eyes wasn't exactly friendly and she knew they would attack her once she had her guard down.

"I'm.....sorry Maki.  If I had been more careful this wouldn't have happened.  I'm so sorry.  I know there isn't anything I can do now."

"It's...not your.....fault.....Miyaka.  I'm.....glad we met.  I had fun......I know this is the end for me....but I accomplished my goal."

Miyaka's eyes snapped opened as she chocked out a sob.  She remembered the day he had yelled those word to the heavens the day she accepted him as her informant. 

'I will be your informant and never betray you.  I will accept any job you give to me, and the most important.....I will be your shield if need be and hope that my last breath is by your side!!'

Maki coughed up blood as a couple of tears slipped from his eyes.

"God damn it, Maki......"  Miyaka closed her eyes and bowed her head slightly so her eyes were shadowed.

She adjusted him gently so he was cradled in her arms.  "one.... more thing-"

"Stop talking idiot."  She could see how hard it was for him to speak.

He closed his eyes and breathed deeply.  "Let....me finish."

Her hold on him tightened in worry.

"I didn't.....say this before.....but you are the most..... beautiful thing I have ever..... set my eyes on Miyaka.  Don't let anyone......and I mean anyone.... ever say otherwise."  He took a deep breath and looked up at her determination was in his eyes.

"I......love you."

Her eyes widened in shock and softened and bent down pressing her lips to his forehead.  "I love you too, you stupid fool."  

She left her lips there afraid to take them away.  His heavy breathing slowed and he whispered out a 'thank you' before he fell limp his head lolled to the side into her chest as she removed her lips.  Tears hit his face from above before she gently laid him down on the ground and stood.

Her eyes were red making her green eyes brighter than usual.

Looking up at the sky she made a promise to Maki.

'I'm going to finish this for you Maki. I promise.'

My fucking God.  I actually had a difficult time writting this I had to get up and wallk away from the computer. 

I felt tears trying to sneak into my eyes.
