Chapter 17

Emi was leaning against a wooden railing at the dock waiting for the ship to come in so she, Zetsu and unfortunately Tobi could catch up to the others that had possibly already made it to the land of shadows.  

Her red eyes scanned over the information that was in the portfolio in her hand.  Tobi ran up to her swinging his arms in the air trying to get her attention, "Emi!  When is the pirate ship going to pick us up?!"

She glanced at Zetsu to see if he would answer him, but he was just staring into space.  Sighing she closed it and looked at him annoyed.  "Tobi, for the last time the ship only goes over there once a week.  No many people need to go in that direction so it is a long wait.  Besides, the man at the ticket booth said that the ship before us was attacked by a sea monster.  It barely survived which was the first in fifty years, apparently."

Tobi tilted his head, "how did it survive?"

Emi let out a puff of air, "Really Tobi?  It was because Kakuzu and Hidan were on that ship."  She looked out towards the water tuning out anything else that came out of his mouth.

Her thought went to that new teammate that Kakuzu and Hidan were working with for this mission.  She was strange that was for sure, it was like she seemed to be trying too hard to act like herself, it was like a fake personality.

Something in the distance caught her attention making her squint her eyes to try and see it better.

"It's here."  Zetsu's voice was heard from beside her.  

"Yay!!  The pirate ship is finally here!"  Tobi started dancing around the dock.

She glared in his direction "Tobi we can barely see it from here it is only the size of a speck.  It still has a couple hours before it makes it here you moron."

He froze from his dance and his arms fell hanging in front of him as he looked at her depressed.  She could just imagine his jaw hitting the wooden dock in shock. "Ha?!!"

The four were sitting in hiding among the trees watching the camp.  They couldn't go making a fire, it would just give away their location.  One of them was always awake to keep watch and to make sure that they would know when Danzai would start making a move.  

Maki was on watch in one of the trees high enough to see the camp but they wouldn't be able to see him.  He was sitting against the trunk of the tree with his arms crossed when he saw some guards come out of one of the tents and heading towards the cage with the children.  Maki stood on the balls of his feet while holding onto one of the small branches dangling just over the top of his head.

The guards started to get the cage ready to move, then Danzai walked out of his tent approaching them giving the orders.  Maki turned and jumped across a couple of branches then dropped down to the ground landing five feet away from the camp where everyone was silently resting.

Miku turned her head their eyes making contact with one another, and she knew it was time to move without him saying anything.  She stood calling upon the others and they stood up instantly and they all sneaked towards the place where the camp was.

Danzai was walking back to his tent and the guards were starting to move the cage with the children by attaching them to a horse and hopping on one themselves.  Miku looked at Kakuzu giving him a strange look.

"We should follow them in the trees.  If they are using horses they might move a lot faster than before." 

Agreeing with her they all jumped into the trees following behind them with enough distance so they wouldn't be noticed.

Once they stopped at a fork in the path the four of them jumped down into bushes keeping out of sight.

One of them got off his horse as someone came out of the path meeting up with him. He was hiding his entire body with a black cloak.  They couldn't hear what they were talking about from where they were positioned but Miku guessed it was instructions to where to go next.

They were about to follow again but kunai came flying towards them stopping them from going any further.  Miku stepped out in front of the cloaked person with a glare in the direction where they were standing.

"Maki, you guys go ahead."  she gestured with her hand waving for them to get going.

"I'm not just going to leave you here, Miku."  He refused stomping over to her.

Once he was close enough she grabbed the front of his shirt bringing his face close to hers, "He is not going to let us just slip past him without a fight!  We cannot lose track of the childeren or this mission will be a bust!!" She yelled at him, emotions swirling around in her eyes. 

She shoved him away from her, "now get going."  She mumbled softly.

Maki's eyes were wide at her sudden change in personality, then went dark glaring at her while whispering so only she could hear him, "are you going to use your 'other' self?"

She looked away from him and back at her opponent.  She could feel the evil radiating off of him and swirling around him.  She had to get the others far away from her so she could fight with her whole strengh.  The person in front of her was one of Akuma's tainted souls, and she needed to remove it somehow, but wasn't about to do it with the two Akatsuki members standing around her.

Maki sighed and his eyes softened and turned around, "don't you dare die on me."  He whispered to himself.  

The three of them dashed into the trees, and Kakuzu looked behind him to see Miku smirking at him.  He didn't know why but he had this feeling that they had better get a fair distance from her.

Glaring at her opponent once they were out of her sight she crossed her arms.  "Why don't you take off that cloak you are hiding under so I can see my opponent properly."

He lifted his head slightly so she could see his mouth show a creepy smile from ear to ear.  It made a shiver run down her spine.

He undid the lower buttons on the cloak opening it more so she could see him clearly.  Her eyes widened at the sight and emotions swirled around in her head.

"There's no way . . . you . . . how are you alive?"
