(Jay's POV)

I was running across the rooftops of Ninjago. My hood flowing behind me in the wind. Looking at City Hall up against the skyline. I sat down on top of a random building and caught my breath. I looked at my watch. "Eleven Thirty!" I exclaimed. I sighed remembering that no one was with me.

I was alone.

I got back on my feet, turned around and started to head back to the school for tryouts.

'I am so late!' I thought as I ran across the rooftops. I stopped at the back alleyway where I had first me Cole. I slid down onto the dumpster and jumped down to the hard concrete. I peered around the wall to see if there was anyone outside.

All I saw was a few adults setting up for tryouts. "Jay!" I heard someone scream. I turned around and looked down at the short boy in front of me.

Morro.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him. "Aren't you supposed to be with Cole?" "Yeah, I guess so." He replied. "But I had to see you again!" "What for?" "Well you saved Cole and stood up to Nadakhan! You are also said to be one of the best!" "Best What?" I asked. "Best ninja!" He exclaimed. "But the only person who has a seen me train is Cole!" "Cole told me about you, said that you were his best friend in the world!" He was quite talkative for a young kid. I thought he was shy. Guess I was wrong.

Cole was my best friend. I just couldn't see him today, I can't stand to be around anyone right now.

"Do you know when tryouts start?" I asked him. "Cole said they start when lunch is over." He explained. "Are you trying out?" "Yeah, I think so, you better get back to Cole." I told him. "Okay! see you at tryouts!" He shouted already running towards the school.

I glanced around looking at the set up. I wondered if there was a place to get a better view.  I climbed to the roof using the drain pipe on the side of the school.

I peered over the edge and looked at the school yard. Tents were littered across the yard each with a different symbol. Flexibility, weapons, stealth, agility, aim, sparing, and more.

All things I had practiced for years.

I saw someone look up in my direction. I quickly hid behind the ledge. I don't think he saw me. I sighed. 'This is going to be harder than I thought.' I looked back at the yard to see that the man was gone.

I'll just look around the grounds for a bit.

(Nya's POV)

We were busy talking that we didn't notice Nadakhan walking up behind us.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't the weak fifth graders that needed the new kid to stand up for them. But, where is he. Oh, he's not here? Well that just makes my job easier." He said in a mocking voice.

"What do you want Nadakhan?" I asked him. "I want to teach you a lesson!" He shouted. "No one makes a fool of me and gets away with it!" "Jason was right, we got here first. So, the table is ours for lunch." Zane explained.

"I don't care! And a soon as I'm done with you, you're friend will come to help, and then you can all say goodbye!" He grabbed Zane by the back of his shirt and threw him onto the table. "ZANE!" I yelled, but I was held back by one of Nadakhans 'crew'. I looked behind me to see...

Myself?

It was Delara, Nadakhan's girlfriend. She and I looked a lot alike. "Let me go!" I pleaded. Her grip was really tight. I  heard a grunt of pain. I hoped one of the boys had landed one on Nadakhan. I turned back to the fight to see my brother land in a trash can.

I facepalmed. Cole and Zane ran over to help him up.

"You.

Messed.

Up.

My.

HAIR!"

Kai was so loud even Nadakhan put his hands over his ears. I don't think Kai has ever been that loud. He must be really mad. He lunged at Nadakan, but he stopped my brother and held him up by his throat. Similar to what he did to Cole this morning. He threw him into the table where Kai now lay unconscious.

"Kai!" I threw Delara off me and ran to my brother. I saw him breathing. 'Ok, still alive.' I thought. I saw Zane be thrown across the room slamming into a trash can a few feet from us. "Zane!" he spotted us and crawled our way. "Are you ok?" I asked him. He nodded and clutched his shoulder.

I made sure that Zane was okay before I looked back up to the fight. I saw Cole in a headlock. "Cole!" I shouted. Nadakhan turned to face me. "Don't worry you're next sweetheart." He warned.

I couldn't take it anymore. He hurt my friends and wouldn't stop. I stood up and grabbed an apple from the table behind me. I threw it at him with all the force I had. It hit him in the face. He looked up at me and dropped Cole, who immediately started gasping for breath in the floor.

He started to advance towards me. I backed up and froze when I ran into something. I gasped and looked behind me. It was Delara  and the rest of Nadakhan's group. They smirked and pushed me towards Nadakhan. He grabbed me and held me up by my throat. He likes to do that a lot apparently.

I was terrified.

This was Nadakhan. The most powerful seventh grader. Probably the most powerful person in the school. I felt my throat closing up, I started to gasp for breath.

I heard screaming which told me that I was probably passing out. Then all went black. The last thing I remember was feeling someone lift me up and hold me close. Their steady heartbeat echoing in my head.
