I'M ALIVE AGAIN I'M SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG OOFThere were a lot of subtle things Monika could use.
Like poetry, for example. If she tried to write a poem that would appeal to the taste of her crush, she could easily pass it off as experimenting with styles.
Or maybe friendly gifts. People always give friends gifts, nothing suspicious about that. It was innocent, and common.
Or even, she could schedule a sleepover. As the club president, planning events that would strengthen the bonds of her friends wasn't anything new. Yeah, that sounded good. She'd plan the sleepover.
"Hey, girls..." started the brunette, addressing the other people in the club. They each looked up from their respective activities to see what was up.
Out of habit, an empty smile melted onto Monika's face, since she was so used to faking confidence. "Who wants to have a sleepover after the meeting?" She asked, silencing to allow her club members to speak.
"That sounds great!" Squealed Sayori, shooting out of her seat in what seemed to be sheer excitement.
Natsuki gave her cerise eyes a quick roll. "Hmph, I've got nothing better to do," she replied.
Monika waited, eyes falling on Yuri. She hadn't said anything yet, and she was the whole reason this thing was planned. If Yuri didn't come, Monika might as well have cancelled the entire event.
Yuri slowly drifted back to reality, one of her collected smiles gracing her lips. "I don't see why I couldn't," she decided.
"Yay!" Cried the enthusiastic vice president, while Monika released the breath she was holding. Yuri was coming to the sleepover... that was amazing.
"And today, we aren't going to be sharing poems," she added with a small nod. She wanted to use her poem-sharing time to plan her confession to Yuri.
"What?"
Monika's head perked up curiously, turning to the owner of the voice. It was Natsuki, challenging her with a perplexed look. "But I had a really good one for today!"
Monika looked at her short friend, offering her a smile of sympathy. "Well, this gives you more time to touch up on it and make it the perfect poem!" She mentally prayed that her words would quiet Natsuki down.
But, of course, they didn't.
Natsuki pouted, arms crossed tightly under her chest. "It already is the perfect poem!" She argued. The president of the club suppressed the urge to give in to her friend.
Before the tiny girl was able to retort, she heard a different voice. This one contrasted Natsuki's high-pitched and fierce voice, with a soft, mature tone. "Natsuki, I'm glad you liked the poem."
All eyes turned to Yuri, who stared at her desk awkwardly. "B-but as the president, Monika should be able to decide when we share them..."
Monika was stunned. Yuri barely had the guts to retort to anybody, yet she'd stood up for... her. She gave a tiny smile as her heart fluttered.
She turned her gaze to Natsuki, who was just as stunned. She stared at Yuri, then at her bag. She ended with a tiny shrug and a sigh. "Yeah, whatever." She slumped down into her chair, and Sayori's tiny footsteps pattered over to comfort Natsuki.
While those two had their own conversation, Monika turned to look at Yuri. She dismissed any nervous thoughts she had with a swallow, and walked up to her friend.
