A V A ' S P O V
May of 1941
I sat outside my apartment on the metal steps, a book in my hand while waiting for Steve to stop by. He had asked me to go to the movies with him so being the nice person I am, I agreed. Besides, I don't mind spending time with Steve, in fact I always look forward to seeing him. He always knows how to make me smile on a bad day, and he always makes sure I know that he's here for me whenever I need someone to talk to.
I couldn't ask for a better friend than him.
"Hi Ava." Steve greeted me.
I put my book in my purse and stood up, straightening out my dress.
"Hey Steve." I grinned.
We locked arms, like we always do and began walking in the direction of the theater.
"So how has your day been?" He asked me, glancing over at me.
I shrugged. "It's been okay, but I think this'll make it better." I replied with a slight smile.
"I hope so." He glanced at my attire. "You look beautiful today by the way."
I'm more than sure my face was rose colored because I sure felt the heat rise to my cheeks. Although he's always complimented me it still gets me bashful.
"Thank you Steve."
Once we made it to the theater we went inside and he paid for both of our tickets, and when I tried to protest he jokingly told me to be quiet. He doesn't pay for me often but when he does I feel bad because he goes through a lot to get his money. Having to work while dealing with health issues and all, it's a lot. But I appreciate his genuineness.
"You're just too good to me." I spoke as we walked into the screening room.
"Well you deserve it." He replied.
My heart fluttered at his words. He's just so sweet, how could someone ever think otherwise of him.
We sat down and as the movie began and I gasped when I seen what was playing.
"Steve, I can't believe you remembered." I said in pure joy.
"How could I, you wouldn't stop talking about it."
I rolled my eyes jokingly and then held my finger up. "Shh, were going to get kicked out." I said chuckling.
The movie was half an hour long so it wasn't late or anything. It was only 4:30 and the neither of us had to be anywhere so we decided to walk around to pass time. We talked about anything and everything, from his childhood stories to about what drawings he's been working on.
All I do is listen, because I don't have very much to talk about. I could complain about my job but that would be just terrible. But Steve and Bucky know I grew up alone so they understand when I'm quiet and don't really talk about my past. They just change the subject and try to lift my spirits. It is one of the reasons why I'm so grateful for them.
"So, I was thinking." Steve said. "Bucky has been planning on going to Coney Island with his girlfriend but he wanted me to go and.." He began to explain but trailed off slowly as if he grew nervous.
"And?" I asked.
We stopped and stood in the middle of the sidewalk, not caring that we were in people way of walking.
I looked at him, at his eyes and he smiled, and my heart fluttered.
"Would you want to go with me?" He asked and I was taken back but excited.
"Like a date?" I asked nervously and he nodded.
"Well then I'd love to Steve."
He grinned and it was like all his nerves and worried washed away, and he seemed truly happy. Which makes me wonder, if I was the first girl to truly accept his offer. I remember Bucky telling me about how he sets up Steve's with dates but they usually go sour, causing Steve to just go off somewhere leaving the girl with Bucky. I felt sorry for Steve until he told me that it didn't really bother him because he knows someday he'll find someone.
Maybe that someone is me.
"Make sure you plan it on a good day, wouldn't want something stopping us from having a good time." I said.
"Any day is a good day whenever you're around Ava."
We walked the rest of the way back home, where we had to bid each other good bye for the day. He stood across from me, and I couldn't help but gaze into his blue eyes. The ones I've grow to find so beautiful and full of life.
"I guess I'll see you around." I stated with a sigh, not wanting him to leave.
"I'll stop by tomorrow." He said. "That way there I can let you know when our date is."
Date, that word seems so foreign to me. I've never really been on a true date.
I nodded and smiled. "I look forward to it."
I reached out and engulfed him into a friendly hug. I don't like saying bye so this is a better way of ending the day until the next time we see each other.
"See you later Ava."
He stood there like he always does and watch as I disappear into the building before he leaves. He is truly the sweetest guy I'll ever meet, and I know that for a fact. I also now know that we both have more than just a silly crush on each other. He asked me on a date and it's truly an astonishing feeling.
A/N: it's short I know but it's mostly a filler chapter. I just want to get to the good point of the story already. That fluffy love mostly. Lol
