A V A ' S P O VThe next two days passed by rather quickly. We spent as much time as we could together, whether it was just a lunch at the diner or a walk in the park. I cherished all the moments because, he's going to war after training. As much as I'd hate to admit he could be killed, or taken prisoner. The war is a dangerous thing, you never know what will happen and that's quite terrifying. I may never rest, not until he comes back.
The two of us were laying down on a blanket that was sprawled out on the grass in the neighborhood park. We stared up at the clear blue sky, the neither of us saying a word. Our hands were entwined and he used his thumb to graze it over the back of my hand soothingly.
"Hey Steve." I murmured, turning my head to glance at him.
"Yeah?"
"You're gonna come back to me, right?" I asked him in almost a whisper.
He slowly sat up, towering over me. I couldn't help but let a warm smile fall onto my face as I looked up to him from my place on the blanket.
"I promise that I'm going to come back." He told me and then he leaned down placing a gentle kiss on my lips. "You don't have to worry."
He lied back down next to me and I rolled over facing him. He held his arm around me and I placed my head on his clothed chest listening to his abnormal heart beat. It made me wonder how exactly he's planning on making it in the war with all his health problems. It worried me sick but I couldn't be more proud for him.
"You know, I am proud of you, Steve." I told him.
He didn't say anything, instead he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out something, keeping it enclosed in his fist.
"I was going to save this for another time, but I think I want to give it to you now." He stated.
For a moment my heart began to race, as I irrationally thought it was a ring. But when he opened his hand there on his palm laid a simple chain with a red and silver pendant.
"Steve, you shouldn't have." I said feeling bad that he had spent his well earned money on me. "It's beautiful but it looks expensive."
"It took a lot of saving but when I seen it I knew I had to buy it for you." He told me and I smiled, taking it into my hands.
"To be truthful." I spoke as I placed it around my neck. "I thought it was a ring."
We both blushed at my comment, and I kinda laughed softly at my ridiculous thoughts.
"If it would've been, what would you have said?" He asked me, and he was serious.
I wasn't sure what I would've said. It definitely wouldn't have been no, but I don't know if I would've say yes.
"I guess you'll just have to ask me some day and find out." I replied and he smirked.
"I look forward to it."
We continued to for another hour or so before it was time for him to go, I didn't want to see him go. I already had to experience my best friend, Bucky being shipped away and now I have to with Steve, my love.
The two of us walked back to his apartment where he had his suitcase already packed. He had changed into his olive colored military uniform and I helped him with his tie, not because he didn't know how but because I wanted to. I wanted to take up any moment I could.
"I'm going to miss you Steve." I told him and he let out a short sigh.
"I'll miss you too." He stated.
We walked outside and he sat his case down on the ground and I hailed a taxi for him.
He turned to me and I wrapped my arms around him, engulfing him into a hug. I didn't want to let go but I did. When we pulled away he placed a kiss on my forehead and then on my lips.
"I love you, Ava Jackson." He said and I smiled sadly.
"I love you too Steven Rogers."
He picked up his suitcase and put it in the trunk of the taxi and then opened the car door.
"I'll write you a letter when I get there." He told me.
"You better." I said. "See you later Darling."
Once the taxi drove away I finally let the tears fall, and I held onto the pendant that he had gifted me.
"This isn't goodbye."
A/N: I know this is short but I just didn't want to spend too much time on this chapter. It's short and sweet, as it needs to be.
