It took my mind awhile to comprehend what Evan had just said. When I finally understood my heart dropped instantly. Panic kicked in and I felt like someone was squeezing my heart. I began taking short quick breaths as tears welled in my eyes. What happened to Kale?

“Come Kat,” Evan said as he stood up and grabbed my wrist. “I called my mom she said she’s picking us up here now and she’ll bring is to the hospital.”

He began pulling me to the entrance door of the coffee shop. We stepped foot outside it the wind was blowing like crazy and it looked gloomy; a sign it was about to rain. Waiting for his mom felt like an eternity. My twin was in the emergency room! I needed to be there like right now.

“Kat calm down.” Evan said softly. “You’re shaking like crazy.”

“Where’s your mom?” I snapped. “She said she’s coming!”

“She is. Just wait alright? You know I live a bit far from here.”

I began pacing around in circles trying to calm myself down. But no matter how hard I tried I didn’t work. My hands were still trembling like it was a cold winter day and I wasn’t wearing any gloves. When I tried to speak it felt like I was about to choke on my words

“Kat, you seriously need to calm down or you will have a panic attack.” Evan said.

“I’m scared Evan.”

Tears were falling freely down my cheeks. I know I should think positive but how can I when this reminds me of the time Logan called Kale and me to the hospital when mom got into her accident? What if it’s a repeat of almost three years ago? It can’t be. It just can’t be.

Evan pulled me into his arms and hugged me tightly. More tears fell from my eyes and damped his shirt slightly. But he didn’t care.

“Shh…” he cooed into my hair. “It’s okay Kat. Everything’s going to be alright.”

“W-What if I-I lose him like h-how I lost my mom?”

“I don’t know.” He said.

He released me from his embrace and caressed my cheek, wiping away a stray tear.

“But I do know that Kale wouldn’t want you to be so negative and crying over him. Logan didn’t tell me what was happening. He just told me to bring to the emergency room. He didn’t say whether Kale was in bad condition or not.”

“But-“

“But nothing, Kat. We just need to stay positive okay? Can you do that for Kale?”

I nodded. Evan was right. Kale wouldn’t want to see me in tears. He wouldn’t want me to put negative thoughts out into the universe. He would want me to stay strong and stay positive. I wiped my tear stained cheek and let out a breath.

“She’s here.”

A red car pulled up in front of us and I could see it was Evan’s mother. Evan opened the back door and let me inside first, then him. He slammed the door shut and the car started taking off to the hospital.

“I’m so sorry it took long.” Mrs.Paquette apologized. “Am I taking you both to the local hospital?”

“Yes ma.” Evan responded. “Bloomingdale General Hospital.”

She nodded and continued driving down the street. The drive there was quiet. The only sounds that could be heard was our breathing and the sound of raindrops pelting the windows. Evan was texting someone on his phone and Mrs. Paquette continued to drive. My full attention was on the window as we passed by many buildings, plaza and houses. After 10 minutes we were at the entrance of the emergency room.
