The soft voice of a female slowly dragged me out of sleep. I kept my eyes shut and remained still as I listened carefully to the words she was saying.
“…she’s still asleep. Her cheek doesn’t look so bad anymore. It’s just slightly bruised.”
What happened to my cheek?
Where was I?
I tried to recollect the events that happened a few hours ago, hoping it would lead me to remember where I am. All I remember was searching for Chad at Ashton’s party and…
Miguel.
Miguel slapped me.
My eyes snapped opened and I shot up of bed. A wave of dizziness washed over me and my head was now in pain, as well as my cheek. The room was lit up dimly but a small lamp on the side table beside the bed. I looked around the room frantically, afraid that Miguel was somewhere in here.
I was in a pretty spacious room. I was in a king sized bed, placed right against the wall far from the door. A window sat right above me and it was opened just a crack, allowing the cool fresh air inside. On the other side of the room was a dark wooden ergonomic desk, with a closet with double mirror doors beside it. On the wall right in front of the king sized bed was a flat screen hooked up to the wall.
“She’s awake.”
I turned my head to the doorway and see Angela talking to someone on the phone. Am I at her house?
Before I could voice all the questions that came to mind she held a finger up, gesturing me to wait a minute.
“… calm down, I’ll watch her until you get here okay? Just be careful.”
She ended the call and walked over to the bed. She sat on the edge of the bed, causing it to sink under her weight.
“Where am I?” I asked, my voice sounding hoarse.
“Austin’s house.” She said. “After you collapsed on the ground you didn’t want to go to your house so we brought you here.”
So I was in Austin’s room. No wonder the scent on the pillows was so familiar. I couldn’t put a name on that scent but whenever I smelled it, I immediately felt at peace. She must’ve been talking to Austin on the when I was still asleep. Curiously, I asked her where he was.
“He went to buy you some pain killers for your head and your cheek.”
My hand automatically went up to touch my cheek. My light touch caused me to hiss in pain. Tears formed in my eyes and began to spill instantly. Not because it hurt like hell but because Miguel actually slapped me. I know he wasn’t in the right state of mind but it still hurts that he did it.
Angela wrapped her arms around me as she stroked the back of my head soothingly trying to calm me down. I was shaking uncontrollably as I sobbed into her embrace.
“Shhh, it’s okay.” she cooed. “You’re safe now, I promise.”
“I-I’m scared.” I sobbed.
“You don’t have to be scared okay?” she said softly, gripping my shoulder lightly. “Everything’s going to be alright.”
After moments of uncontrollable tears I was calm again. Angela and I sat in silence for a while. It’s then I realized that Austin and Angela left the party early to take care of me. I must’ve ruined their night. Feeling guilty I apologized to Angela. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“Why are you apologizing? You did nothing.”
“I’m sorry I ruined your night with Austin. I didn’t mean to interrupt you guys.” I said.
