The rest of the week flew by smoothly; mainly because I didn’t go to school for the rest of the week. I was afraid to face Austin. Punching him after making his comment about my father was not necessary. My actions have left me feeling regretful and embarrassed and all I want to do is apologize to him.

It was Friday afternoon and I was in the living room watching reruns of Supernatural while waiting for Evan and Sophia. For the past 2 days they’ve been coming over to give me the homework I missed. Logan left for work about half an hour ago and Kale just texted me saying that he’s on his way to Brian’s house.

Just as Dean and Sam break into a house with their guns aimed at the demon, my doorbell rang. I paused the show and answered the door.

“Hey.” he said quietly, looking at his black and white converse. My heart skipped a beat and it wasn’t because of Miguel. It was because the last person I expected to be at my doorstep.

Austin.

He was wearing a grey hoodie and black jeans. He had a tired look on his face like he hasn’t been getting enough rest.

“I have your homework. Evan had to go somewhere straight after school and he brought Sophia with him. They asked me to bring it over.” He handed me a folder, which probably contained the papers I needed. “He said he’ll text you what you need to do.”

I nodded and took the folder from his hands. “Thanks. So I guess I’ll see yo-”

“Kat can we talk please?” he interrupted. When our gazes met I could see something I thought I’d never see in his eyes; guilt and regret.

“Okay.” I stepped aside from the doorway, allowing him to enter. “Come in.”

When he came in he kicked off his shoes and followed me to the living room. My blankets and pillows were scattered all over the living room floor right in front of our centre table. I turned off the television and sat on the sofa. I patted the seat on my left, gesturing Austin to come sit. He hesitated for a second before he took his seat beside me.

We sat in silence for what seemed to be an eternity but realistically it was only 10 minutes. Austin was staring into space while I fidgeted with my finger looking down onto my lap. Why wasn’t he talking? The silence grew more and more intense and awkward. I decided to say what I wanted to say for the past three days.

“I’m sorry Austin.” I apologized. He opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off. “I’m sorry for punching you before class started. I didn’t mean to do it. Well I guess at the moment I kind of did but-“

“Kat calm down.” He interrupted me. “You have no reason to apologize. I should be the one saying sorry. I know what I said was a low blow even for me. What I said was disrespectful and unforgiving. All I wanted to do was apologize to you but I know I am undeserving of your forgiveness.” He let out a breath and continued. “Until you are ready to forgive me please let me show you that I am at least somewhat deserving of your forgiveness.”

I gaped at him. Who knew Austin Desmyn would actually come begging for me forgiveness.

“You rehearsed that, didn’t you?” I smirked. The color of his cheeks turned into a tinted red and he nodded.

“Well I didn’t want to mess up, you know.” He answered sheepishly cupping his elbow with his left hand.

“Well it’s nice to see your face is healing.” I commented, changing the subject. Luckily I didn’t give him a black eye. But I did give him a slight bruise on his left cheek and a bruise on his nose.

“Ehh. The doctor said it should take about 2 weeks for it to be fully recovered.” He shrugged. “Don’t feel guilty Kat “

“But how did you...”
