- THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY

MARLEY followed Klaus into the bar, an agitated look on her face as she flopped onto one of the chairs with a sigh.

"Listen up, old man." Klaus began, pointing a finger at their father's urn, "You know, if I was murdered and if one of my sons - adopted sons - happened to be able to commune with the dead, I might think about, I don't know, I don't know... Manifesting!"

Marley rolled her eyes at her brother's antics, scoffing as he waited for their father to just magically appear.

"Do the whole big angry ghost lecture." Klaus looked up at the ceiling, "Tell everyone who done it, and finds eternal peace."

"Eternal peace is probably overrated." Marley sighed, sinking further into the seat.

"You said it, sis." Klaus groaned.

For the following five minutes, Marley remained sat in her chair, twiddling her thumbs. Boredom was beginning to set into her body, Klaus' silence not helping her at all. He moved from his position in front of their father's picture to leaning against the table, to turn in the centre of the room, to standing in front of the urn once again. For another five minutes, Klaus remained stood in front of their father, staring down the portrait.

"Come on, Reggie. Anytime now." Klaus sighed.

"You need to sober up, genius." Marley groaned, sipping on the glass of whiskey that she had gotten herself in the five minutes of silence from Klaus.

"Come on! Come on, chop-chop!" Klaus shouted in frustration. "You always were a stubborn bastard! I don't know about you, but I need a drink."

Klaus pushed the urn to the side to lean over the bar, the lid falling off and their father's ashes spilling across the bar.

"Klaus!" Marley shouted standing up from her seat, "What did you do?"

"Oh, fuck." Klaus rubbed his hands down his face moving to a crouched position.

"You grab the urn, I'll grab something to mop it up into it," Marley commanded speeding over to the bar with a towel.

"Well, we're screwed." Klaus sighed as he picked up said urn.

"Not, if you hurry up and fucking help me." Marley all but growled at her brother.

"Jeez." Klaus shuddered, immediately helping her to get the ashes back into the urn.

Marley finally ventured properly into her old bedroom, the floorboards creaking under her feet. She walked over to her bed, sitting down on the old mattress. Looking up at the walls she recognised many posters that she'd managed to sneak past her father into her room, mostly being from some band that she thought was cool. Beside them lay her photos that she'd neglected to look at when she first walked into the room. They held the memories of her childhood before she left, mostly being pictures of her, Klaus and Ben. She remembered when they were taken, like the one where they were all passed out on the sofa; they had come back from a mission - just the three of them.

"Shhh. You'll wake up the others." A sixteen-year-old Marley whisper yelled at her brothers.

"We know. That's why we're being loud." Klaus said, leaning onto Ben.

"Ew. Get off me, you're all sweaty." Ben whispered to Klaus shoving him onto the sofa, where he cuddled into a pillow.

"Remind me again why Dad sent us three out and not any of the others?" Marley complained flopping down next to Klaus.

"Probably just wanted a break from Klaus, and thought that the best way to do that was to send us with him." Ben shrugged, sitting down next to Marley, his arm snaking its way around her shoulders.

Marley sighed again, nuzzling her head into Ben's shoulder, Ben placing a kiss on her forehead before resting his chin on top of her head.

"Can you guys quit being so coupley for five minutes?" Klaus sighed, "Klaus wants some attention too."

"C'mere Klaus." Marley murmured, lifting her arm from its place on Ben's chest.

Klaus crawled up the sofa towards the pair, flopping his body down onto them, a huff escaping them both at the additional body. Klaus snuggled into his sister's side, falling asleep almost instantaneously.

"He's so annoying." Marley groaned leaning her head onto the back of the sofa.

"But that's why we love him." Ben sighed, snuggling further into the sofa.

"G'night." Marley yawned closing her eyes.

"G'night, Marls." Ben murmured into her shoulder.

Allison found the three in the same position the next morning, finding their bond cute she took the picture, a few of just Ben and Marley, and given them to the girl when she woke up.

PRESENT

Marley smiled fondly at the memory of before everything went to shit and she left - how their childhood, though troubled, couldn't have been better. to her.

"Marls!" Diego called from the corridor, making the said girl look up from the photo she was looking at.

"Yeah." She replied whimsically.

"Didn't you hear all of the commotions? Wait. What were you doing?" He asked stepping into her room.

"Oh, just looking at some old photos." She sighed setting the picture down onto her desk.

"I remember your obsession with always wanting to capture the moments, it's quite impressive actually." Diego smiled at the wall that was covered, ceiling to floor in Polaroids.

"Yeah." She sighed again. "Well, we should get going. Don't want the others to be the first ones to see what's going on out there."

"You're lucky I actually grabbed your attention when I did." Diego began, "That thing out there looks like some sort of black hole or something."

"Maybe it's some kind of time vortex or whatever," Marley suggested with a shrug.

"Maybe. Let's just go outside and see what's going on." Diego said as they entered the kitchen.

"Better not be a fucking black hole," Marley grumbled, following her brother.
