"So..." Celia said to Bex. "I was thinking, for your baby shower we can-"
"Woah woah woah. Hold up. Who said I'm
having a baby shower?" Bex questioned her mom.
It was a Saturday morning, and unlike other Saturday mornings, Celia invited Bex, Bowie, and Andi over for breakfast. Bex knew it wasn't just a 'come over and let's spend time together' breakfast. She knew her mom was up to something, and she was right.
"I did!" Celia proudly said.
Bex gave her a confused and annoyed look.
"I never said I wanted a baby sho-"
"Me too!!" Andi said as she jumped up.
Celia looked over at Andi confused at first. Andi didn't know anything about cece wanting to throw a baby shower for Bex, but she liked the plan and knew Bex would say no if it was just Celia. But if she joined in, and pretended that she was apart of it, she knew Bex couldn't say no. Andi turned to Celia and gave Celia a wink to let her know her plan.
"Uhhhhh yes!!!" Celia said. She caught on to Andi's plan. "Me and her chatted about it last night!!"
"Huh?" Bex said now looking at Andi with a confused look. "Chatted? She was home all night though."
"No no, not like face to face. That thing you do over the phone! Chatting!" Celia replied.
"You mean texting?" Bowie said laughing.
"Yes! That!" Celia said.
Andi was trying her best not to laugh at her 'cece' and so was Bex.
Once Bex got herself together, she told both the girls "You guys really need to stop planning stuff for me when I'm not around. What if I don't want a baby shower?" She looked over at Bowie hoping he would say he didn't want one either, but all he did was sip on his coffee and shrugged. She then rolled her eyes.
Bowie tried to stay out of things like this. He didn't have a side really.
"But mom, you never want anything!! You didn't want a big wedding, you don't even care about your birthdays, you can at least have one big thing to celebrate in your life! I mean this is also a big thing!! Your having a baby!!! That's huge!!" Andi said hoping to convince her mom.
"And I don't care about parties. Especially for me." She replied. "I myself, don't like parties for me. I just feel so greedy. Telling people to come celebrate me. Then they have to buy stuff for me. No thank you. Even if I told them to not bring anything, they are still taking time out of their day to come celebrate something for me when they could be doing something much better!" She explained.
Celia and Andis smile turned into a frown. At this point, it would be really hard to convince her. But Celia had one more idea. She looked over to Bowie "Bowie?"
He instantly knew what her plan was and rolled his eyes. She was going to ask him how he felt.
Celia was once again smiling and so was Andi. "What do you think? How do you feel about this?" He was right. "Don't you want a baby shower? It doesn't have to be just all girls, invite your guy friends!"
Bex turned and looked at him hoping he would at least have a answer other than yes.
He set his coffee down at the table and stood up and went over to Bex and put his hands on her shoulders. "Whatever makes Bex happy, makes me happy. It is her choice. She is the one who's carrying a human in her for 9 months."
"Thank you!!" Bex proudly said.
Both Celia and Andi were now annoyed.
"But..." bowie added.
Now Bex joined both girls. She should've known he wasn't done.
Bowie started to talk again "Bex, I do think you can think about yourself once in a while. Andi is right, this is a big thing. And if you feel greedy, you shouldn't. If people didn't like birthday parties, weddings, or baby showers, then they wouldn't be a thing."
"Yeah!!" Andi added on.
Celia smiled.
Bex did think about what Bowie said, but she still didn't want one. She looked over at her mom who was smiling at her, then at Andi who was smiling, but also had a 'pleaseeeeeee' look on her face. She couldn't resist it. "Fine!" She said.
Andi started to jump up and down, and so did Celia.
"Yes!!! We convinced her!!!" Andi yelled.
"No you didn't." Bex said.
Then both girls stopped jumping and their smiles went away.
"But didn't you just say yes?" Andi asked.
"No. I said fine. Not an yes, or a no." She replied.
Now Andi and Celia, and Bowie all looked at her confused.
"I'll think about it." She said.
Then both girls once again, smiled.
Though they both wanted a yes, that was as close as they were going to get.
"Yes!!!!" Andi squealed. "Thank you!!"
Bex smiled.
"We have to start planning!!" Andi said. Then she looked at Bex who gave her a look. "Just Incase." Andi added. She then walked over to cece who had her laptop all ready with baby stuff. "Ooooo!" Andi said while looking at the screen. "See those?" Andi pointed to some decor. "I have baby blue tissue paper! I can use that!!" Celia then looked at her confused, as long with bowie.
Bex laughed. "Who said the baby was going to be a boy?"
Andi realize what she just had said, but didn't care. "The universe!!" She said proudly.
Both Bex and Bowie laughed. Celia was still confused. "I don't know, just when you told me the news, it was like 'I'm having a baby' it was like the universe just told me that you are going to have a boy!" Andi almost couldn't contain her excitement.
"But..." Bex said. "What if the universe is wrong?"
Andi didn't give up her hope. She looked up at Bowie. "The universe is almost never wrong! Right dad?"
Bowie laughed. "It hasn't so far!"
Bex and Celia looked at Bowie.
"Did The universe tell you the baby is a boy too?" Bex asked.
"I mean, not right away. I was too excited to think about the gender." He said back. "But, now that I think about it, I do get that feeling that it is a boy. But, if not, I will still love the baby no matter what." He said before Bex could say anything.
"See!" Andi said. "He knows too!!"
"But what if the universe is wrong?" Bex said in a worried voice. She didn't care her daughter wanted a boy, or thought it was a boy, she was just scared, of the universe was wrong, she would be disappointed.
"Then if it's wrong, I'll still be happy." Andi said calmly.
"Okay." Bex said while smiling. "Just don't get your hopes up."
"I won't." Andi said back then went over back to Cece and started to point out things she wanted.
Celia did the same.
Bex could tell both girls were excited about this, but she still didn't really want a baby shower. She didn't want to disappoint the girls. Both of them looked happy. She got up and walked over to the girls hoping that if she looked at stuff, maybe it would help her want one more. And it kinda did! She started to point out things she wanted. She was finally getting excited.
