I sat uncomfortably in my white dress. I felt an arm slither around my waist and squeeze tightly. I imagined it to be Burr. In this perfect dream land that would remain forever a fantasy. It wouldn't be Officier waiting for me after Father was done walking me down the aisle. It would be Burr gazing lovingly into my eyes as we exchanged vows. I turned around hoping that it would be Burr that would be smiling at me but it was just Charle, with his crooked nose and his devilish eyes, hugging myself closer to him.

"30 more minutes and then we'll be wedded. Also, smile. Don't embarrass me in front of my family and comrades."

I frowned and turned away. It was embarrassing to marry this scum in front of my patriot family. As soon as I got to Fort Washington, everything would be better. I looked down at the people here to see me marry a Lobster-back. I saw my family. My father told them to wear all black as a joke. I smiled a bit at the gesture. Some soldiers from Washington's army and some civilian rebels came to protest King George's Contract and the wedding, Burr included.

On Charle's side, an elderly couple sat in front, I assumed they were his parents. Other than them, about 30 British soldiers were seated on his side, showing off that they were getting a large donation to fund their army. I noticed a few were armed which startled me. Were they going to start a battle in the Schuyler Gardens?

A half hour later, Charle had gone to the wedding arch while I waited with father for the music to cue my walk to the horrible British officer in chains.

"I'm so sorry, Pumpkin. If I had the power to stop this, I would definitely use it," dad said, speaking in his soft & proper Schuyler

I wrapped him in a tight embrace, "I love you, father. I'll get out of this somehow."

He took me by the shoulders and looked me in the eye, "(Y/N), don't make a permanent solution for a temporary problem. Remember, the best weapons are our thoughts and words, not our actions."

I smiled underneath my veil. Father always knew what to say, I wish I could be more like him.

An organist within the manor began playing, my family and Charle's parents stood up. The protesters remained seated as to dishonor the unfair wedding. The British soldiers immediately jumped out of their seats and started clapping. A few of Washington's soldiers clutched their guns angrily.

Please, just put your guns down, I mentally plead with the soldiers. I don't want blood spilt...

We began walking at a slow speed to the wedding arch. I saw Burr out of the corner of my eye, I quickly smile at him as soon as he can see my face underneath the oversized veil I'm wearing. He flashes me a sad smile back and then looks down. All the sadness in the world couldn't compare to how I felt.

The ceremony continued. Every time I looked at Charle's hands holding mine, I cringed. Knowing that this man would be my husband. My mind was racing. I can't run if he puts his hands on me. I'll have to leave my sisters and brother. Will he put his hands on me? I'm scared. I'm screwed. Will I have to be plain Mrs. Officier? Bearer of children, cooker of meals, and hostess of parties? That life isn't for me. I forbid it.

"Ms. Schuyler, do you wish to say any vows before you are joined in holy matrimony?"

I had been practicing this speech all night.

"All right," I began. Public speaking wasn't a strength of mine, "I have been practicing this vow for a while and I had an epiphany. French in my first language and this is my first marriage. So let's make my first vow a very memorial vow; a vow of firsts," I then began my quick vow. (don't sweat it, I'll just make the entire thing in English. Love y'all!)

"I'll make this quick. This all around sucks and I'm not sure what kind of cruel joke God is playing on me here but goddamn, if husbands had a return button, in this case, I would use it."

The British soldiers, looked confused but applauded anyway. The French speakers on Washington's army smirked and then translated for the non-French speakers. Soon, my side of the ceremony was standing up from their pews in applause. By then, the Redcoats knew something was up. A silent agreement between Charle and the priest was made and the rest of the wedding was a blur. I signed my signature on the dotted line, as did Charle and as soon, with a movement of a quill, my freedom was gone and chains appeared on my arms. I am officially a wife.

Okay, something happened to me and I'm hoping someone can calm me down about this. I fell when I was walking home and cracked my front tooth in half. There wasn't any root damage but I'll have to have a procedure done on Monday to fix it. Can somebody calm me down about this please? Thank y'all!
