When I woke up I felt miserable. My nose was plugged and I didn't feel like moving. I was exhausted from crying all night. I decided to call the school and tell them I'm sick. They know that I call on my own behalf because of my parents situation. I don't usually call in sick, so they trust me. I didn't feel like seeing Nick today.

Nick's POV

I didn't see Emily at school. I know I broke up with her, but it was to protect her. I couldn't have her hurt, or even. I shuddered at the thought. Once this all blows over we can be together. Once I got home I noticed Danny in the back yard. Then I heard the most beautiful sound in the world, Emily's laugh. I know it's only been one day, but I really miss her. I walked over to the fence and waved to Danny. Danny waved back and motioned to me to come in. I unlatched the gate and walked in. I looked at Emily and she looked up at me. I saw that her eyes were puffy and were full of sadness. It killed me to know I had done that to her. She ran inside looking like she was about to cry. I ran inside after her. She ran up to her room and locked the door.

"Em," I sighed, "Unlock the door please."

"Just go away," she said in between sobs.

"Em, come on."

"Haven't you done enough?"

I slowly walked away looking back. What was I hoping for her to do, I don't know. But I didn't want it to end like this. I walked back out the back and told Danny he should probably go back inside. He nodded and walked towards the door. I turned and walked away. Before I shut the gate I felt a tug at my shirt. "Nick? Why did you hurt Emmy? Don't you lwove her any more?"

"Danny, of course I love her. It's just. Hard to explain."

"I thought lwove was when you were together."

"Danny you wouldn't understand, just go inside."

"Wait. Nick. Emmy lwoves you. But you hurt her. I can't lweave it like this. Emmy is my sister and I have to protect her. And you're her boyfriend. You have to protect her. You can't do that if you're hurting her." Then he walked inside and locked the door. Was he right? No. He's five. He doesn't understand the situation.

When I woke up I went downstairs and made some breakfast. I noticed a note laying on the counter. "Nick" was written neatly on the front. It doesn't look like Emily's handwriting, yet it looks familiar. What the heck? I hesitantly opened the note. When I read the note I just dropped it and ran to my room and punched my wall.
