I rounded the corner, passing the water fountain and bathrooms and made my way towards the gym doors. I was about to reach for the handle when the door swung open and forced me to take a step back. Oscar appeared and was too engrossed in his phone to notice me.

"Hey! Watch where you're going you crazy millennial!" I croaked, trying to sound like my grandpa.

His head snapped up and I swear he almost dropped his phone.

He looked at me for a second before shaking off his shock and smiling, "Hey Lana. What are you doing here?" he let the door close behind him as he nervously tucked his phone into the safety of his back pocket.

"I need to talk to the coach about something. What are you doing? Don't you normally just eat lunch in your gym clothes?"

He chuckled softly and scratched behind his neck, "Yeah, well, apparently there is a new girl in school today and Mia said that I had to dress nice because she is sitting with us at lunch. Mia's afraid that if I show up in my gym clothes then it will ruin any chance she has with this girl wanting to stay at our table. According to her, our table is a sausage fest and she wants to try and even out the playing field."

"Wow, I guess I can see why she told you to look nice, which you totally do by the way." I hadn't seen Oscar in normal clothes since the night we went bowling and it's safe to say that the guy has a decent sense of style.

He was wearing a dark grey v-neck t-shirt, black belt and faded jeans which made him look like a surprisedly toned Jet from West Side Story. He even had a cool pair of shoes that looked custom designed since they had a Colorado Mountain patch stitched on the side. I would have to ask him where he bought them some time.

I realized a second too late that I had stopped talking to check him out since a small blush was forming on his cheeks, "But um yeah, if you think about it, you showed up to the table in gym clothes my first day and I haven't been back since. Although, I guess I should probably start packing a lunch so I can sit with you guys and help Mia out."

Oscar chuckled and shook his head, "Mia would love that. Also to be fair, I would have tried to change my clothes had I known you were going to join us. Mia didn't tell me just to mess with me. "

I tilted my head to the side, "Why didn't she tell you I was joining you guys?"

Oscar looked at me for a second like he was trying to figure out what to say, "Mia thinks she's funny. Once you get to know her like I do, then you will understand her evil sense of humor. Let's just say she likes to pull fast ones on people when she knows she probably shouldn't."

I could see that Oscar was beginning to relax around me because he started to look me in the eyes the more we continued to talk. Even his adorable one dimpled smile was making an appearance.

I would have to tell Mia that she should be proud of her shy boyfriend because I think he is finally starting to come out of his shell.

"Well she and I are hanging out tomorrow so hopefully I will get to see this evil side of her," I leaned into him ready to whisper something like I was telling the ultimate secret.

As I did, I noticed how his relaxed poster snapped into a rigid one and I swear he was holding his breath.

Oscar was really easy to mess with which made me smile.

I leaned in close, grabbed the front of his t-shirt to force him to lean in as well. He let me pull him in so at least he is willing to play along no matter how uncomfortable he was right now. I brought my lips to his ear and whispered, "I have an evil sense of humor too."
