My Elvendale Adventure (Cronan X Reader)

Chapter 7: The Shadow Beast

When we get back to the castle's courtyard Cronan locks Sophie up once more. "I bet you were the biggest bully at Goblin School, weren't you?" She shouts at him as he walks away.

"Sophie that makes zero sense. He is an elf, he wouldn't have gone to 'goblin school'," I told her just to annoy her.

"Well, you're still a bully!" She shouted again ignoring me. "And you know what happens to bullies? They-" she was cut off by Cronan using his magic to create a forcefield around her, blocking out the sound.

"They usually win," Cronan completes the sentence and walk over to the goblins standing by his completed portal. I walk over to where the levers are and observe them.

Was it just me or did Cronan seem a little sensitive about Rosalyn? I talked to myself inside my head. Well he did say he knew her. I wonder what she was like?

I snap back from my thoughts when I hear Cronan say, "Finally! A portal into the long-banished dark realm of Elvendale." He approaches the portal and his amulet started to glow and so does the portal itself. "Show Yourself!" Cronan says in a dark voice. Just then a shadow sprawls out from Cronan and turns into a black octopus looking creature with two white eyes and a blue swirl on its forehead.

"Find me the sister of this girl," Cronan points at Sophie. "And bring her amulet to me!" The creature roars and takes off toward Sophie running right by me in the process. I freeze, unable to move from fear. Cronan walks over to me.

"What- what is that?" I ask.

"That's the shadow beast," Cronan tells me, "do you like it?"

"Not its appearance, no." Cronan laughs at my comment and keeps walking forward.

"I'm not afraid of shadows!" Sophie cries out as the monster crawls around her cage.

Cronan laughs once more, "Oh, but you should be. Especially this one."

Well that's creepy, I tell myself.

"Allow me to demonstrate," Cronan resumes, "Hey, you." He points to one of the four goblins standing in front of me. "Yes, you with the funny hair. I'd like you the meet somebody." Cronan snaps and the shadow beast roars once more. It runs down towards the goblins and turns into a kitten.

And now it can shapeshift!

The unsuspecting goblin starts to pet the kitty on the head. When he does the kitten starts glowing pink and then so does the goblin. The goblin starts to groan in pain.

Is it killing him?

Cronan laughs for a third time. "Enough." He holds up his hand and the Shadow Beast retreats. As soon as it does the goblin collapses. I rush over and kneel beside him, as do the other goblins. "See? Shadow creatures live on the life and power of others." Cronan spoke to Sophie. "That's why your grandmother banished them from this realm."

Well that's weird, I think to myself.

I got up off my knees and go to stand beside Cronan. "But once I have your sister's amulet they'll get a new home. And I'll get a new kingdom." Cronan proceeded to tell Sophie, "Maybe you've heard of it. Earth."

In response to his overly dramatic speech Sophie stated to bang on the cage bars and scream. I look over to Cronan. "That Shadow Beast thing... where did you even find it?"

"I'll tell you about that later," Cronan answered me.

"Is he going to be all right?" I motioned to the awakening goblin.

"I guess so. Now Shadow Beast," he gestured towards Sophie and the creature took off. It ran up the side of the castle and jumped onto Sophie's cage making her scream. Cronan laughed as the beasts ran circles around her. "Do you have her scent?" It hissed in response.
