I sat, hiding behind the portal, as my mind rushed through everything that had just happened. The Elves and Emily came, rescued Sophie, and escaped. I helped them and was practically almost killed again.
I jolt back to reality when I hear voices coming from the courtyard again. I stand and peer around the corner of the portal. I see Cronan talking with the Shadow Beast near his throne with four goblins nearby.
"Well," Cronan growls as he gets closer to the creature, "perhaps you can explain how you managed to lose both human girls?" The Shadow Beast murmured incomprehensibly in response.
I could see Cronan tense up from where I was standing and I could hear him yell too. Then, almost as if it were choreographed, he turned around and started to smash almost everything out of anger. He broke the lever Farren previously used and started to go on an complete rampage.
I saw the Shadow Beast disappear and with it gone, I knew it was my chance. I stepped out from behind the portal and run over to Cronan. Just as i'm about to reach him, green spurts of electricity erupt from his hands. I fall to the ground and cover my head with my hands. Suddenly the sparks stop. I look up to see Cronan staring at me with a confused look on his face. Slowly, he walks towards me as if I was an unknown creature. When he was about 6 steps away he finally realized it was me.
"Hey," I said with a small smile on my face. Cronan just stood there for a moment with a blank stare, then he finally snapped out of it.
"Hey?"
I sit up and pull my knees to my chest. I start to worry if Cronan already knows I helped them and he is mad at me.
"Your still here?" His voice sounded shocked.
"Why do you look so surprised?" I move to stand and Cronan scrambles to help me up. He takes my arm and I stand.
"Well, I thought you would run away... to freedom... with your friends. Not stay here as a hostage." Cronan explained, still holding my arm.
"Let's just say I thought it would be more interesting to stay here instead. I never got to be a hostage before, it's pretty nice." I smile a little as I try to sound funny.
Just then the Shadow Beast appears behind us. Cronan let's go of my arm and talks to the creature, forgetting about our conversation.
"Thanks to your utter failure, i've come up with a new plan to get Emily's amulet." Cronan glares at the Shadow Beast. Cronan then turns to the four goblins behind him and asks, "Do you know the best way to capture an elf?"
The goblin with purple hair and yellow skin jumps in the air. He steps forward and talks gibberish as he moves around. Finally, he turns to Cronan.
"No, it does not involve a waterslide and peanut butter you nitwit." All the goblins look disappointed and Cronan carries on. "You simply use their soft hearted, silly emotions against them. They'll walk right into your trap everytime, it's almost to easy. No offense."
Cronan looked towards me, I shrugged, "None taken."
Cronan turns back to the goblins, "But first, you all need to go mine more crystals from the forest, that will get those elves attention." The goblins celebrated at the idea of going back to the forest and ran off. Cronan then faced the Shadow Beast. "And you, you shall provide the bait."
With that the creature shrank away off the edge of the courtyard and away from the castle, so it was just Cronan and I left on the courtyard.
"So, I guess I should tell you that," I scratch the back of my head and look down, "I helped Sophie escape... I'm sorry."
