it was just supposed to be a normal day at seoul high.
nothing special, just the usual lessons, that bored dahyun to death.
she was sitting in the student lounge with her best friend, chenle, who was on his phone.
she was just drumming her fingers in the coffee table while she was sitting in the large, royal blue couch.
a loud 'ding' could be heard over from chenle.
dahyun didn't even bother to turn her head, as she knew it was just a text. it was a sound she was very used to, since chenle always had some kind of conversation going with someone.
"hey dahyun," a familiar voice goes, and she lets out a questioning 'mhm?' as she shifts her gaze towards the voice.
chenle still had his face down in his phone as he talked, "there's a new boy starting today." he announced.
dahyun raised her eyebrow, "what? what's his name?" she asked, wondering how he knew.
"haechan." he answered as another 'ding' came from the phone.
dahyun stopped drumming her fingers against the table, and put her full attention on what chenle was saying. "haechan?" she said confusedly.
she moved closer to him, leaning on him to read what was going on.
chenle slowly turned his head to dahyun, who was reading the messages on his phone.
as chenle didn't respond, dahyun looked at him. "uh, mark's best friend or something like that." he quickly said, flashing a small smile.
dahyun nodded, understanding, letting out a light chuckle.
suddenly, the bell rang.
chenle hadn't expected it, so he got a major shock.
he put his hand on his heart, trying to regain breath. "oh my god!" he gasped, as to which dahyun just laughed.
"you're such a scaredy cat!" she smacked his shoulder as she stood up and left the student lounge.
she turned around the corner out of the door to the student lounge as something - or more like someone - bumped into her.
"hey, watch where you are going!" dahyun scolded the silhoulette, not even noticing who the person was.
an annoying voice replied, smacking her head. "it was you who bumped into me!" the voice said, and it wasn't until that, that dahyun took a look at the boy in front of her.
the first thing she noticed about him was his face that had a rather annoyed expression.
next after that, her eyes reached the bright orange-coloured hair on his head.
before dahyun could respond, the boy rolled his eyes at her and walked away.
she felt a need to turn away and go the other way, but her class was the same way that he was going.
she threw her hands up in the air and gasped as she walked toward her classroom with quick steps.
she reached the classroom, where she almost slammed the door open, before sitting down in her usual seat.
chenle wasn't in this class, sadly, so she usually didn't have anyone to talk to. she had already been labelled as the crackhead of the school together with chenle, which resulted in people having a weird impression of her. it was the opposite with chenle - it resulted in him becoming a total social butterfly.
the lesson was about to start, but it was interrupted by a loud knock on the door.
the principal entered the classroom, soon following by a young boy. and not just any boy.
she recognised him. it was the guy with the bright orange hair from before. then it hit her.
she hadn't actually seen him before.
the principal called attention to himself. "hello everyone, a new student will be starting in your year. he's starting today." he explained as he gestured for the boy to introduce myself.
"i'm haechan, and i'm new here. that's basically it." he shrugged with a cold expression.
"wait, is it.?" dahyun thought as the puzzle pieces got connected together in her mind.
"mark's best friend?!" she thought... out loud. a bright red colour came over her cheeks as she realised her mistake.
"i suppose haechan can sit beside you, miss kim, since you are so eager to yell out in the middle of the class." the teacher said, her gaze immediately clearing any ideas dahyun might be having about demonstrating from her mind.
dahyun sunk down in her seat at the thought of such an annoying boy being her seatmate.
a smirk was planted on haechan's face as he moved towards the empty seat beside dahyun, as if he enjoyed her embarrassment.
"i can't wait to be your seatmate, miss loudmouth." he whispered to her before sitting down in his new seat.
dahyun just sunk even more down in her seat, wishing for the lesson to end. biology was already boring enough in itself.
dahyun wasn't the type to pay attention in class, and she would always make up excuses for why she hadn't done her homework, even the real reason probably was that she had stayed up watching netflix till 3 am instead.
something hit dahyun and she turned around to see what it was, when an eraser fell down beside her. she leaned down to grab the eraser. she put it on her desk as she noticed haechan trying to keep a straight face. she rolled her eyes as she began fumbling with the eraser.
soon, something hit her once again. she looked around to see what it was, but this time it wasn't an eraser.
a small ball of paper was laying on the ground.
dahyun picked it up and unwrapped to see what it said.
give me my eraser back :(
it was a rather simple message. dahyun didn't even bother to hand it back, she just shook her head as she crumbled the paper together.
"miss kim, first you dare to disturb the class, and now you're sending notes around? detention!" the teacher yelled out.
"but i didn't! it was haechan!" she tried to argue her way to fairness.
"i did not!" the boy defended himself.
"detention for both of you!" the teacher announced.
the both of them crossed their arms, sending each other annoyed gazes. dahyun wondered if it was possible for someone to be more annoying than that boy.
it was unfair. why did he have to drag her into so much trouble?
