Lucius Malfoy. A few months ago he sent me a letter about a book repair he needed. He said it was a very special book so I said yes. The day had come where I'd have to meet with him and get the book. I just needed to make it through potions class.
"Miss. Mandriff is there a problem?" Snape asked. Normally I pay attention today, however I wasn't so of course he noticed. "Oh sorry lost in thought." I explained sheepishly. He nodded "Detention with me tomorrow afternoon." I looked down. He walked off without another word. I of course did my best to pay attention the rest of class. After class I gathered my books and began to head out but was stopped by Snape. "Any particular reason why you weren't paying attention?" He asked. I nodded I couldn't lie to save my life. "I'm meeting with someone about repairing a book." I said. It was well know that I like to repair damaged books and make them feel like new.
"Well then just remember books aren't everything." He said walking away. I know that books are not everything but well I prefer them. They would never cause physical pain, or even yell at you. They're peaceful, and unlike people they never change. You can read them over and over but they never change sometimes things become more noticable but that's because you've changed.
I walked down the hallway to the Ravenclaw commons and went to my lonely room at the top of the stairs. I lucky never had to worry about bothering someone as my room only had me in it. I set my books down on my desk. I was to meet Lucius outside of the spooky shack near Hogsmeade. I walked out of my room quietly closing the door behind me. I walked out of the commons and down the hallway to the courtyard and headed off the campus.
I waited outside of the Shack for Lucius. I didn't have to wait long before he came strutting down towards me.
"Hello Mr. Malfoy." I said politely.
"Hello Ms. Mandriff." He said handing me a black leather bound book with a big hole straight through it.
"Do really think you can fix it?"he asked I nodded my eyes wide.
"What happened?" I couldn't help but ask.
"That's not really important now is it." He said. Needless to say I dropped the matter.
"It may take a while but I should be able to have it fixed." I said looking over the book. My hand lightly going over the name Tom Malvolo Riddle. "Tom Riddle." I whispered.
"When do you think it'll be done." He asked. I shrugged.
"Depends on how bad any page damage there is. I can use magic to fix the pages but rebounding it by hand seems like a good idea." I explained.
"How so?" He asked sounding genuinely interested.
"Well with magic there can be some things that get done wrong like the rebinding of a book. From what you've told me it seems like this should be done right. When done by hand not only can any issues be avoid but there's also the fact that it can easily be checked for any other problems that have or could occur." I explained. He looked at me slightly confused. "It's a good thing." I said painly. He nodded "I'll tell you when it's done." I said. He nodded "Until we meet again Ms. Mandriff." He said holding out his hand. I shook it. "Indeed." I said and with that he left. I looked down at the book and began flipping through it. There looked to be blood stains and water damage on most of the pages yet somehow none of them were torn like they should be. I closed the book gently and headed back towards Hogwarts.
I walked through the courtyard pass the gossiping students. Most of them going on about sex Ed. I shuttered at the sound. Why do people think that such a class is so great? I myself have found a way out of it, as I see it to be unnecessary. I walked into my room and sat down on my bed. I looked at the book.
It was weird the book gave me this odd feeling that couldn't manage to put a word to. I quickly desided to give up in trying to name as it began to make my head hurt. I instead began to fix it. Taking care of the pages first.
I sat there peacefully fixing up the torn and mistreated book. When the pages were fixed I heard the sound of approching footsteps and knew I needed to make myself disappear. I grabbed my supplies and bolted out of there through the secret passage that lead me just outside of the room of requirement. The door appeared and I rushed in. Hiding from the preppy nerd of the Ravenclaws also know as the bane of my existence Olivia Bogwater. She was one of the few people that insisted that I get sex Ed something I didn't want. Now you'd think that the Ravenclaw house would be uncomfortable with the idea of Sex Ed well you'd be wrong many could not wait to learn of things that they had never heard to much about. Others all ready knew and wanted to gather data on other peoples reactions to the topic.
I sat down on a black couch that sat in front of a burning fireplace. I began to fix the leather then starter rebounding the book by hand. What happened when I finished I was so not prepared for.
"Thank you young lady. Now who are you?" Said a voice I looked up and there standing in front of me was a boy with black hair and a Slytherin tie. I screamed. Who the heck was he? He just looked at me annoyed. "Ow." He said. I looked at him my eyes painfully wide.
"Who are you?" I asked pointing at him. "Now I do believe I asked you first and didn't your parents teach you not to point at people it's rude." He said.
"Right sorry." I said resting my hand on the book.
"So? What's your name?" He asked again.
"Mi-Mint Man-Mandriff." I stuttered.
"Ugh of course it was a Mandriff." He said distastefully.
"Yeah what about it?!" I snapped. He looked at me with a shocked look on his face. Yes my family is known for it's misfortune in the wizardary world, but he didn't need to rub it in.
He began it laugh. Man this guy is rude. "What's so funny?!" I said angrily. He began to laugh even harder. I gripped the book tightly containing my angry. He looked at me his laughter dying."That hurts." He said sounding annoyed.
"What?" I said confused. How was I cause any pain to him if I wasn't touching him? I looked down at the book then at him. "How?" I asked. He hit his hand hard against his forehead.
"The book and I are connected." He explained. I blinked several times. Connected?
I tilted my head to one side "How so?" I asked very interested. And of course he began to explain.
