Writers can't write if they don't read! Use books as inspiration, use them however, but you can't do much if you don't see another person's style. Once you know multiple styles, you can develop your own, or learn to write similar to an author.
Use books as an example, of characters, of a plotline, and of language. That's what I do with a lot of my short stories. And, reading is an excellent way to learn new words in context, and learn new ways to use old words.
Finally, when you read, you amass more knowledge about dialogue and how it flows, along with body cues you can use. Though it's also good to learn that from real life, too, people are scary...
Any book recommendations you think will help with this?
