The only reason I walk to school is for the exercise, and so I don't get bugged on the bus. I have two very popular friends but even though they are who I hang out with, the idea of being popular just does appeal to me.
When I got to the end of the road, everything started to go down hill (theoretically speaking). At the sound of the mustang engine, I winced but I am a Soc and as I live in the south side so I am pretty used to that sound. The reason why I winced though is because I am alone and I know what Socs think about girls, and it isn't real pleasant.
They stopped and got out the car.
'Great', I thought 'they noticed me' but I didn't start to run or do anything because I knew that would be the worse thing for me to do.
"Hiya pretty," one said, slowly, as they got closer.
"I'm not in the mood." I snapped back but I felt a hand on my wrist pulling me back. I sent my elbow backwards until it him an object. The boy groaned and let go of me as I elbowed him in the stomach. I started to walk faster until I was nearly jogging but that was a bad decision as they noticed and ran in front of me stopping me in my tracks. I kept looking at the floor and not once did I look up to see if I knew these Socs.
"Ohhhh," his tone was patronising and I felt anger bubble up inside of me but I didn't let it take over.
"This one's feisty." It was a different voice this time. It came from behind me but I didn't dare turn around. It was a familiar voice that I had heard a lot; a voice I had heard nearly everyday but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I started to walk again but the teenaged boys wouldn't let me through.
"What's your name, baby." One stepped forwards making a gap in the semi-circle but I knew if I tried to escape, I wouldn't make it. I have never been good at track or running long distances so why would it change now. I was an unfit mess who didn't know what to do in her life and anyway they looked older than me so supposedly they would be able to run faster. His cold fingers touched my skin delicately and he tried to lift my head up, but I wasn't having it.
"Back off," I said fiercely, stepping back but accidentally bumping into the one standing behind me. Screw keeping my face hidden. I span round on my heel and stared the Soc straight into his eyes, until I realised who I was staring at.
"Zo," Bob said this quietly but loud enough for everyone to here.
I gasped and shot him a dirty look, shouting in his face, "I said BACK OFF." I was furious and I turned back around, pushing though the semi-circle of boys, forcefully.
They looked so confused and stared at Bob for answers. "You know this broad," the one who touched me on the chin asked. Bob, though, didn't answer straight away probably because I was still in hearing distance, but when he did, he stammered when he spoke.
"She... she's Randy's lil sister." He shook his head. "Don't tell Randy or he'll.... he'll beat me up."
I couldn't see the boys' faces but I bet you they looked worried as they noticed the figure looming over Bob.
"Too bad Bob." I looked him straight in the eyes. "He already knows." I laughed as I pointed to the figure behind Bob. He turned round to see Randy staring him down, angrily. I faced forwards again and carried on with the walk to school.
When I got there, school I mean, it looked like no one had changed in the two days we were off, which didn't come as a surprise. I couldn't find Marcia or Cherry anywhere so I decided to go straight to maths. Maths definitely isn't my favourite subject, but I sit next to someone who is nice and funny so it turns out ok in the end.
