It was the day of the homecoming game. Frankie had her hair pulled back in a curly blonde ponytail with glitter and her make up done up. She was at her locker when Bucky came up to her and said "Frankie."
She looked down and he said "What did I do darlin? You know I don't do well with hints so did I miss a hint and I not know it cause I've spent the last week trying to figure out what I could of possibly done to hurt you to the point of tears. You are my best friend please just tell me."
She swallowed back tears.
"Frankie.. this isn't like you to shut down." he said
She turned around to him and said "I like you Buck..but you like Courtney. I had hoped that you would ask me to go with you like we use to do in middle school. But I see now that high school is different now. So you go have fun with Courtney cause she's your girlfriend now right. I'll cheer at the game then go home cause nobody asked me to go." and she walked away.
He closed his eyes and whispered" Shit."
She spent the rest of the day avoiding him. He saw her walk by at lunch as he sat with Courtney and their friends as they talked about the dance. She sat alone as she picked at her food and Bucky looked over at her then he felt Courtney slid her hand into his and she said "You okay honey bee."
"Yeah I'm fine." he said as he kissed her cheek.
That night after the game she packed up her poms and put her bag on and started to walk to her mom's car. He watched as she left with her mom and his parents. He tried to text her after he got home and she would read them and not reply. He was laying in his bed and he sighed and plugged in his phone to his charger and went to sleep.
The next day when they all had practice Courtney talked all about her night with the girls. She walked out of the locker room when Courtney started to talk about it again after practice. She walked right past Bucky. "Frankie." Bucky said
"What?'" she said yelled
"I'm sorry..but please don't shut me out we can still be friends." he said
"No..cause it hurts to much. But then again I'm not like all the other fucking girls that throw themselves at you your girlfriend included so maybe that was my disadvantage in all of this." she said as she walked out of the gym.
He threw his football helmet against the gym wall. "Buck.. calm down " Steve said
Courtney came out and said "Hey who was yelling."
"Frankie." Bucky said as he picked up his football stuff and they left to get ready for the movies.
