After Ginny and I talked, she went back to the dance, but I made my way back up to the dorms. I couldn't make myself go back in there; so I just went to bed early.
I get in the shower and scrub off the remains of the night; my makeup, my perfume. My hair isn't going to be soft and silky anymore, and that's fine.
"Elizabeth?" I hear right as I finish getting dressed. I open the door, seeing Hermione sitting down on the edge of her bed.
"You left early too?" I ask, standing in the doorway.
"Yeah," She grumbles.
I make my way over to her and sit down next to her. "Boys suck."
She leans her head on my shoulder. "I couldn't agree more."

The next morning is awkward, to say the least.
"Where did you go last night?" Harry asks me as I sit down next to him. "I couldn't find you."
"Oh. I just...I left early," I respond vaguely, reaching for some toast. My eyes search the room for Adam, although I'm not sure why I would look for him. Why should I even look at him after what he did?
"Cedric told me something last night." Harry's voice is suddenly hushed, and he leans toward me slightly. "He says to take a bath with the egg. I think that reveals the clue."
I glance at the Hufflepuff table at Cedric with a smile. "I can't believe he told you."
"He thought it was only fair, since we told him about the dragons," Harry says. "Are you okay?"
I bite my lip. I thought we had passed that topic, I think.
"Harry, Elizabeth, did you see this article?" Hermione interrupts. I hold back a sigh of relief, not sure if the distraction was intentional or not. She passes over the prophet, and I lay it out for Harry and I to read.
"This is awful," Harry says after a moment.
"Horrific," I agree, shaking my head. "That women is a terrible person."
"Did you know he was..."
"Half-giant?" Harry murmurs, glancing at Hermione. "Well...Ron and I kind of overheard him telling Madame Maxime last night."
"Where is Ron?" I ask, frowning at the door.
"He forgot his potions homework, he had to go and get it," Harry explains. "He should be here by now, though."
"Oh, joy," Hermione mumbles.
When Ron arrives, he and Hermione are obviously in some sort of silent battle. Although she didn't tell me exactly what happened, I know it has to do with her going to the ball with Krum (and not Ron). While I think it's stupid for Ron to be upset at Hermione in this situation, I definitely wish Hermione had gone with Ron. While they seemed like an unlikely couple, I could see it happening; I wonder if Hermione had gone with Krum just to make him jealous? It's obvious how Ron feels about her, but she's harder to read.
"Elizabeth?"
I snap out of my thoughts, turning my head to see Adam there, the deep frown on his face unnatural, as I'm so used to seeing his playful grin. He looks more sad than anything, which confuses me to no end.
I turn back around, picking my fork back up.
"Elizabeth, don't ignore me, please," he says. "Can I just talk to you?"
