Lucas was the first one to wake up the next morning. Sicheng went back home the night before so Yuta gave his friend the spare bedroom. Lucas was in no rush to get up so he layed in bed and scrolled through his phone. He was used to having to wake early for his job so his body naturally woke up at an early time, even when he didn't have a schedule for the day. He had been preoccupied with his life problems and he hadn't yet had a chance to look at the photos from the runway show. He always liked to look through some of the final photos that made it into the public's eyes. He enjoyed looking at his friend's runway looks and final photos but he seemed to look closer at his photos than his colleague's. He was picky with his work and he always made a few mental notes on what he could better next. After nitpicking every last photo, he scrolled through his social media. He shuffled through the endless shoutouts to his name and looked at the new photos he was tagged in. He liked to hear what his fans had to say. He scrolled ok his screen for a few more minutes until he heard light footsteps pass his door. His friend was finally awake. He slung one leg over the edge of his bed and tiptoed to the door, not wanting to disturb the Osaka boy. He twisted the knob slowly to avoid creaking and peered through the small crack of the door. He looked down the short hallway and spotted Yuta crossing the floor to his kitchen.
Lucas stepped into the hallway and peeked around the corner. Yuta's head was inside the fridge so the model slipped into the room and sat at the granite island that stood in the middle of the room. His friend took a carton of eggs out of the fridge with bread and reached into the freezer for bacon. He added the new ingredients to the row of counters that sat between the fridge and stove. He had an already existing pile of ingredients laid out. Lucas cleared his throat loudly, catching his friend's attention.
"Whatcha making?" He asked. Yuta jumped slightly from being surprised. Lucas started chuckling to himself.
"You're jumpy this morning." He commented.
"Fine then, I won't tell you what I'm making. You can make your own breakfast." Yuta shot back.
"Honestly, I'd rather that. Every time you cook, I think you're going to burn down your own home." Lucas mocked. Yuta shook his head and laughed. The boys' friendship was built upon an unhealthy amount of mocking and picking fun at each other. Yuta lived on his own and he often cooked his own dinners. Yuta was actually pretty good at cooking, but Lucas could never admit that to his friend's face.
"Okay, seriously. What are you making? I was dieting for the show and I don't have anything coming up anytime soon. I'm ready to eat, Yuta." Lucas complained.
"I was making omelettes and bacon. I have pancake mix in the fridge. I could make that too if you want."
"Please?" Lucas leaned his elbows on the countertop and flapped his eyelashes at his friend. He wanted nothing more than to have his first full meal in two weeks.
The two made small talk as Yuta finished making the food. Both boys were wearing pyjama pants, still unready to start the day.
Yuta took two plates from the counter and placed one in front of his friend. The boy put the other on the opposite side of the table and then sat down.
"So how are you and Sicheng?" Lucas asked.
"Things are going steady. He's been coming over more often. I think he finally knows me well enough to trust me to stay the night."
"And what happens when he stays the night?" Lucas hinted.
"Nothing you need to know." Yuta looked up from his drink and death glared his friend. Lucas was used to the stare, however. Yuta had strong, dark brows that made him look angry and his mouth naturally pursed. Lucas chuckled under his breath in reply.
"He finally got signed to a record label, right?" Lucas remembered Sicheng telling him something about his singing career.
"Yeah, it's a label based in Canada. They really liked his recordings though and he's been going to their building here in New York for the past month. They're mostly just training him but he said that the other day they were working on some ideas for some songs." Yuta complimented the boy he had fallen for.
"It's off topic but thank you for listening to me yesterday. I'm sorry for interrupting your night with him. I still don't know why I keep thinking of him." Lucas wanted to apologize. He really did feel sorry for the past night. His friend shook his head.
"No, don't worry about it. You know I'm here whenever you need." Lucas nodded and felt slight relief.
The two spent most of the day in Yuta's home. Both needed some relaxation time and multiple hours were spent lying on the couch. Lucas had eaten too much after barely eating for so long. He felt sick but he had no regrets. The food tasted amazing and he was finally able to eat a full meal.
The sky started to darken and Lucas said his goodbyes to his friend. He pulled his car out of Yuta's driveway and pulled into his own garage. He had to return to work tomorrow and he fell asleep thinking about the photoshoot he was meant to do the next week.
