Chapter 1
Sara's P.O.V
"Sara get down here and say goodbye to your father!" yelled my mother
"Coming" I yelled back
My father is going to a meeting in the Kingdom over from Terra, the Aer Kingdom about a 2-hour flight or 4-hour car ride. They do this a couple times a year with each Kingdom and because my father is captain of our kingdom's guard he always accompanies the King to these meetings and my brother usually goes as well as he is training to take over our father's role when he retires.
As I ran down the stairs I see that my brother West is standing with them in his uniform and see that I guessed correctly.
"Don't tell me you are going to?" I asked already knowing the answer
"Yeah I have to you know this, but I will see you when we get back little sis" he said hugging me
"Okay if you say so, bye big bro" I said hugging him back
"Bye daddy" I said letting go of West and giving him a hug as well
"Bye sweetie we will see you when we get back and behave for your mother" he said letting go of me
"I will"I said letting him go as well
They hugged my mother goodbye before we walked them out the door and watched them get on there dragons and take off in the direction of the castle. I watched in envy of them as I so wished that I could go with them but no I must stay here and train to be a Lady of the high court.
"Come on sweetie no need to mope around all day we have a meeting to go to" my mother said
"Do I have to go" I complained
"Yes you do, you ask this every time and you have the same answer every time, now come on" she said in a no argument tone
I looked away from the window and made a move to my room to get ready to sit through a boring 2 hour or more meeting as that's how long these meetings are.
Whoops, I nearly forgot to introduce myself well, hi my name is Sara Whitetail and I'm 17 and have medium blond hair, purple/blue eyes (coloured eyes are normal for people who live in the Four Kingdoms), I'm not tanned but not completely pale either. I'm about 6 feet tall and skinny but not too skinny, I'm not one of those girls who starve themselves because I love my food. I'm not into doing makeup or wearing those long dresses and heels but its how a 'Lady' should dress. I hear it almost every day if I put something different on, anyway back to the story.
After I had a quick shower I slipped on a dress it was a very light pink and ran to the floor. I sighed, I hate pink and long but if put something else on I would not hear the end of it. Applied my normal makeup, which was very simple and minimal, quickly put my hair up into something simple and acceptable before my mother came beating down the door yelling were going to be late. Quickly slipping on some matching heels and hurrying down the stairs I got into the awaiting car thinking to myself when will this nightmare end.
(After the meeting)
Wow, I don't think those two hours went for long enough, it feels like I'm wasting my time going to these things after all I don't want what my mother wants me to do. I'm not like her wanting to get married young have children and be a successful High Lady of the court. I just want to climb up onto my dragon and fly into the sunset. But reality has to hit you in the gut at some point.
I think I just broke my record for getting in the front door and up the stairs to my bedroom in record time. I just couldn't wait to get this suffocating dress and high heels off and to put my hair into a ponytail. Chucking some shirt and pants that roughly matched on, I climbed out of my window and scaled down the side of the house so mum wouldn't find out that I was sneaking out of the house. She would never let me go into town by myself let alone looking like I did.
I usually sneak out when my brother West was out training with dad and it was just me and mum at home. It could get very boring cooped up in your room or being stuck with mum who makes me do chores.
Taking the path behind the dragon stables where nobody would see me, I started on my way into town kicking small rocks as I went. Before I could see it I could hear the hustle and bustle of our little town which was just on the outskirts of the castle. Even though most of the families who apart of the court lived in this town we mostly had commoners (people without dragons) which made up most of the townsfolk. Nobody really looked down at anybody as that was just the way things were.
Taking my time looking around the town I made it to were some town folk have set up stalls selling their produce and other handmade items. Some of them offered me to try something or tried to get me to buy something but I kindly declined their offers and continued on my way through town.
By the time it took me to get on the opposite side of town, I could see the sun starting to set which meant that mum would come looking for me for dinner soon. I quickly turned on my heal and started to make way back home. With the aroma and sounds of the town slowly disappearing behind me I started to think about dragons and what it would be like to be a rider. Before realizing that next weekend I would be going to the Middle Mountains with my best friends.
The Middle Mountains is the place where every dragon is born and bonded with their rider. They are situated between all four Kingdoms where everyone can have access to them as it gives everyone a chance to see if they are a rider or not. Not everyone goes their every month some people might only go twice in their lifetime as is not everyone's dream to become a rider. But to me and my best friends, it means everything to us to become riders as it means that we get out of being a Lady status. So we go every month when there have been more eggs laid and new chances to be gained every month. And how do we get there without our parents finding out you may ask, simple we tell them we are staying with a friend who lives in town who is all for us being 'total badass dragon riders' her words not mine and she covers for us with our parents.
I didn't notice I was so deep in thought until I saw the stables, quickly and quietly moving to make my way up to my window and scaling the house and into my room without making a sound. Score one for me. Jumping into the shower quickly so my mother wouldn't find out about my little adventure, just as was getting dressed in my PJ's I heard her calling me for dinner. Good timing.
Walking into the dining room was a little different without dad and West already stuffing their faces with food. Sitting down across from mum she served me my food. We ate in silence which was weird for this dining room. It only until we both finished was when she started up a conversation.
" Help me clean up and then head up to bed we have a long day tomorrow" she said
" Okay" I said knowing that there was no way out of tomorrow
As we finished cleaning up she said her good nights and headed up to bed and I followed shortly after. Lying awake I started thinking what would be so important that I needed a full nights rest but that thought quickly changed when I started thinking about the Middle Mountains which had me nodding off dreaming about riding a dragon.
