In the midst of wallowing in his own embarrassment, Jimin had come to the realization that Yoongi had bought him mint chocolate chip ice cream (his favorite). He was surprised, and instead of accepting the fact he may have remembered, went with his only other option of it being purely coincidental.
Yoongi, though, thought it looked like the younger was closely inspecting his ice cream, though he had only spaced out in the middle of looking at it. He went into a panic, thinking it maybe wasn't Jimin's favorite, and he'd been wrong.
"I-is it not your favorite?" he asked nervously. Jimin looked up from his cone to give the elder a confused look. Yoongi gulped. "I just- last time I saw you here, you said it was your favorite, so I got it, but if it isn't, then--"
"It is, don't worry," Jimin said, cutting him off. He only had the chance to feel a bit surprised, and kind of flustered, before Yoongi was talking again.
He let slip a small, relieved smile. "Good. I was scared I was wrong for a second there."
Jimin shook his head, directing his gaze back to his ice cream. "I'm just surprised you remembered, is all..."
Yoongi chuckled lightly, and the two ate their ice cream as they made up scenarios of how this talk could go in their heads.
Jimin saw it ending in complete disaster. No matter how he could see it going, each way out had the same outcome; Yoongi hating him. Even if the elder had made it clear he didn't hate Jimin, there was that overwhelming sense of doubt burying itself in the pit of his stomach that prevented him from seeing any good way out of this.
Yoongi, however, could only see he and Jimin walking out of the ice cream parlor hand in hand. He was a little too positive for his own good, but he knew a negative atitude would get him nowhere in this situation. So he focused on the bright side: he likes Jimin, and Jimin likes him. Which could only come with a good outcome.
As Yoongi was a good halfway done with his ice cream, while Jimin was doing his best to savor the treat, he decided to speak up.
He cleared his throat. "So, I really hate awkward situations," he started off, "and I kinda just want to get straight to the point." Jimin gave the elder his undivided attention, despite feeling like he would have a nervous breakdown any second. "And I really don't want you getting sick again, but I feel this is something that needs to be talked about."
Jimin nodded in agreement, because he, too, knew this had to be done.
"And like I said earlier today..." Yoongi looked up and locked eyes with Jimin, offering a soft smile as the younger gulped down the lump in his throat. "I really, really like you, Jimin. And I don't know how much you like me... or if I've scared you off." He laughed lightly. "But I know there's something here." He used his hand to gesture at the air between the two of them. "And I know you feel it, too."
Jimin was struggling harder than he ever had before to keep his tears at bay. What Yoongi said... really hit him in the heart. Nobody had ever expressed something as sweet as he had, and Jimin just wanted to cry his little heart out the same way he had when he realized he was in love with Yoongi.
Yoongi, unfortunately, noticed this, and his hopeful expression dropped. He was instantly concerned, thinking he'd done something wrong.
"J-Jimin? What's wrong?" he asked.
Jimin shook his head, letting a few of his tears fall as he offered a small apologetic smile. He wiped the tears from his now red cheeks as he sniffled. "I-It's just..." He sniffled again. "Yoongi, you're so sweet a-and you don't even realize it." He paused to wipe a few more tears which had fallen. "Don't even realize what you do to me... my poor heart..." he mumbled through a small smile.
Yoongi's heart skipped a long beat, and he smiled cutely. Not one of those gummy smiles Jimin really loved, but it was a smile, and Jimin loved it when Yoongi smiled.
"You make me want to be that way, Jimin," Yoongi said.
Jimin scrunched up his nose, giggling. "That's so cheesy!" He laughed again through his sniffles, and Yoongi could only sit and spend all of his uwu's on Jimin's laugh.
Yoongi hesitantly reached for Jimin's hand so he could hold it, and when Jimin saw this, he made a bold move and slipped his hand into Yoongi's himself. And though he blushed at his own action, Yoongi found it adorable, and squeezed the younger's hand gently. Jimin smiled possibly the widest he had in a very long time in that moment.
