Weaponry class was more like self training. There was no need for a trainer or a professor in this class; we were allowed to train however we like, as long as the damages are minimal, to both the opponent and the equipments used.
It was really odd, the four of us hanging out together. Even the other kids were starting to give us strange looks. But it was hardly a matter to me, I'm not sure about them though. As much as I'm used to silence and awkwardness, me not cooperating seems rather rude. So I tried to strike up a conversation with the boys.
"So Cassie's been gone for a while, huh?"
The Welser brothers sent out a worried look but gave no hint of verbal response. I took this as a signal to shut up. Eventually, Zeke brought it back, "She's been having issues lately with stalkers actually."
As the brothers were stretching and practicing with their own specialized weapons, Zeke turned the trident upside down and leaned on it, while trying to talk to me about the matter with Cassie. He questioned me with his gaze whether I was fine with putting up a conversation with him as I was arranging my bow. As to which I gave a nod in confirmation.
"It's been going on since she started here. Honestly, it's been fine with us protecting her and having A stick out for her. But with more new students come with new unstable stalkers plus new haters. You get what I mean?"
I nodded in response.
Zeke continued, "It came to a point wherein she has to stay indoors for a while. Maybe all we need is to get stronger to protect her." He's different now. I didn't think he could be as caring as this, which came a surprise to me. I wanted to understand what she's been going through but it's rather difficult empathizing or even sympathizing with her.
"I hope you guys sort it out," I blankly uttered before his mood suddenly turn sour and possibly try to berate me about it.
Just as I was practicing my shooting accuracy skills, I caught a glimpse of a spear coming my way. Bending my left knee, I was able to avoid it as it drew near to my figure. When it hit the wall next to me, I turned to Zeke. I didn't know I had it in me to get this much angry but seeing him looking smug at me after trying to kill me makes my blood boil.
I grabbed an arrow from my quiver and aimed for the school pin stuck to his chest area, that to which I had successfully pinned to the upper walls of the training area on his side by projecting my arrow downwards and having it go through the middle part of the school pin.
Everyone seemed rather terrified of our exchange, besides us though. That hardly mattered to me at the moment. All I wanted to do is remove that smug look on his face and smash it with my bare hands. Just as he was about to get back at me for my antics, someone of authority had to go in between us to stop our fight. The stern lady scowled at us and shouted, "Headmaster's office, now!" Her spit flying towards the both of us.
We both obediently and quietly walked towards the Headmaster's office. I didn't think he'd behave at a time like this. When we reached the room, the lady left and only three of us were in the room so I pointed straight at Zeke and exclaimed, "I know I was wrong but he started it! He suddenly shot a spear my way so I retaliated. I didn't mean to though. My anger got the best of me." Though it seems my explanation didn't go through our Headmaster.
He gave me a deadpanned look and turned his glance towards Zeke. "Mind explaining that, Mr. Davis?"
Zeke lifted his head and returned the Headmaster's gaze. Then what came out of his mouth was, "I wasn't trying to hurt her. I just wanted to catch her attention. Though it seems I'm a little out of practice."
"Why would you want to get her attention, Mr. Davis?"
"Sir, I need Katya's help for Cassie's case. You know what's going on with her, right? There are places in this school where men can't reach and April's not strong enough to protect Cassie alone. And the only one capable of protecting Cass is Katya. I know Katya and her limits, she's definitely the only one who can help us." Hearing him say all that was overwhelming. To think he'd go all through that just for her must mean she's really an important person to him.
Headmaster Moore rubbed his chin, probably trying to look like he's thinking about this. Glancing sideways, I could see how serious Zeke looks but there's no way I'm exerting energy over some woman I hardly speak to.
"Mr. Davis, you and Ms. Parker are one of the prized students of this academy. Your parents have both contributed a lot to us as well. Ms. Walker is just an ordinary student. By putting her on a pedestal above both of you, your parents will definitely pull you both out of here," Headmaster Moore explained.
That didn't seem to convince Zeke though. "I don't care what they do to me. I just want my friend to enjoy school and see it as a safe place. You and I both know she also has special abilities! Why can't you protect her too?" he chided. Okay, I don't think I'm supposed to know that.
Now Headmaster Moore is rubbing his forehead instead of his chin. Zeke then continued his thoughtless speech, "Yeah, Cass can turn invisible, but until when does she have to do that? She wants to live a normal life too, y'know. Plus, isn't it time you already lift the ban on me asking favors from Katya? What I did years ago was a dick move, I know. But I was a stupid kid, alright?" Oh yeah, we both got sent to the Headmaster's office then too.
He then turned to look at me and pleaded, "I'm sorry, Katya. You can punish me however you like, for that time. But please help out Cassie."
I turned away from his gaze and said, "I don't care what happens to Cass or you. If you want my help, you're gonna have to do better than that."
Upon hearing me say this, the Headmaster took this response of mine as my final answer and dismissed me. He kept Zeke inside and I could feel all his worries emanate from his figure. Not that it's any of my business though.
