I did my usual routine of trying to seem unnoticed, which was in vain since Sera showed up next to me. "Y'know, if you weren't wearing that deadpanned look on your face most of the time, most guys would line up here wanting to date you," she interjected. She stands out in school because she puts a lot of bright colours in her hair. After rolling my eyes at her, I snatched back my dark gray scarf she borrowed yesterday.
"If we didn't have uniforms, you'd be wearing weird shit and end up looking like a clown, " I retaliated.
As we proceed to walk to our respective classes, she continued blabbing, "Even if I'm not doing that, just having you walk side by side with me is enough to get us funny looks." Well she's not wrong, considering she's too colorful and I'm too 'monochrome.'
Turning around the corner, I managed to bump into none other than April May. When our eyes met, she scowled at me and I really didn't know what to do, so I ended up shrugging my shoulders and saying, "Sorry, I guess?"
"Whatever," she rolled her eyes back at me.
Following her were the Welser brothers and Zeke, seemingly Cassie's disappearance is prolonged. Gabriel took a glance at me while Daniel smiled at me and Sera, to which I nodded back. When Zeke's figure came into view, I avoided my gaze and realigned my shoulder bag, and started walking again. Then I heard him say, "Hi Sierra."
Sera smiled back at him and struggled to go walk with my pace. "Will you look at that? Both Dan and Zeke still have their manners and yet the other two are kind of like brooding horses." Zeke having manners would probably be in the same probability of me smiling genuinely.
To start a morning without a friend in the same class is like an awkward situation for most people, but I'm not sure if it's because of my assassin inclination but it's not as hard for me as it is for everyone else. Even though there are new students admitted to this boarding school during High school, it's not that hard to get used to people's presence. For instance, I know about 84 people in my freshman year from our middle school days. Roughly about 60 or so adds up each batch.
Pulling out my chair, I happened to see a female student next to me taking glimpses of my face and hearing the boy standing next to her desk whisper ludicrous things to her. I stared him down and he was the one who gave out and went back to his own chair and desk.
I sighed, "So what's your deal? What do you want from me?"
She seemed surprised by me trying to spark a conversation with her. Forcing a smile on her face, she said, "My friend and I just entered this boarding school and we were just um, gossiping. I mean, I know most of the guys are into Cassandra Walker but he's pointing it out to me how you're like, ten times better than Cassie. I mean, no offense to you both being objectified but he's just the dorky kind and having you in the same class would totally ma--"
I interrupted her babble by voicing out, "Not to burst your bubble or anything, but I'm nothing special like Cassie. Although, I don't mind being your friend. Tell him the same offer stands for him." With the last sentence, I took a glance at her friend.
Offering her left hand, she grinned widely, "I'm Kendra Brown. Calling me Kenny would do or anything you like to call me by honestly."
I took her hand and shook it, "Katya Parker."
Right as her friend was going to come over, the professor entered our room and started his lesson on art. It was easier dealing with new kids because they don't know your past.

After the art class, I could hear both Kendra and her friend rushing to keep their things to catch up to me. But my next class was Weaponry class, a class with which I shared with Zeke under unfortunate circumstances. I had to pace up so that I wouldn't have to share any uncomfortable interactions with them. Now this class was special, not everyone can take it. It's also required for those who specialize in it. Both Zeke and I were exceptional at it so it was necessary for us to train ourselves in it.
Newly admitted normal students who used to attend sports clubs in middle school that involved weapons, were also in here, alongside talented ones. Upon entering the class, my eyes locked on Danny. I didn't think he'd be here as well.
When he saw me, he waved his hand a little and motioned for me to join them. What's even more surprising is finding Gab with them. As soon as I was within hearing range, Zeke started talking to me directly, something he hasn't done in years. "Fancy seeing you here, Monochrome." It was what the students in middle school used to call me, as they nicknamed Sera as Rainbow.
"I should be the one saying that, Zeke." I expressed an uncomfortable look as I continued, "You already know I'm destined to be at this kind of class."
He snickered, "Are you assuming I'd know things about you?" It hurt a little bit when Danny laughed along with him.
Gab then nudged him with his elbow, "Stop that, dude. It's not even cool anymore doing those sort of things."
Raising his eyebrow, Zeke questioned Gab, "What? Trying to be Mr. Nice Guy now since Cassie mentioned she finds that charming? It's been years since she'd said that. You two better drop the act now." Oh. So both Gab and Danny fancies Cassie. How could I not see that coming? Note sarcasm.
Looking down on the ground, I thought maybe I shouldn't have come in this circle. "Sorry. I shouldn't have said anything. I just thought you'd remember because we were the oldest ones who'd been here in the academy in our batch." Glancing back up again, I tried to be brave enough to look them in the eyes, "I better group up with the others. See ya."
Time and time again, Zeke has always been influential with my emotions. This time, I wasn't expecting him to step in front of me. With a serious face and crossed arms, he said, "I remember, Katya. Stop being such a downer and just train with us." I'm just glad he didn't try to embarrass me the second time.
