Zeke was wrong about one thing. He was wrong about his assumptions regarding Sera. She didn't just want to fit in, she wanted to be there as well as being apart from me.

After my conversation with Zeke, I had the sudden urge to clear things up with Sera. That night, I called her up on my phone and asked for a quick meeting with her, to which she rejected by the way. I mean this is not even worth sharing since nothing happened. Well, sort of nothing anyway. Apart from the fact that she told me she was finally feeling proud of who she is with them. It's like she's saying that being with me degrades who she is as a person. What right does she have blaming all her insecurities on me anyway? It's not my fault she's sort of acting as a social climber right now.

Those things weren't brought up to anyone though. I reckoned it didn't matter at this point. Feeling sad or dejected hardly was part of my job description. After all, I'm here just to protect Cassie. I'm pretty sure Dan and Zeke feel the same way about this; they would rather wash off their hands from emotional dispute.

A few days has gone by before there was an actual mission Zeke and the Headmaster had agreed upon. Though it wasn't as I expected.  This time, the first mission our team got was for only the younger Welser brother and I.

Dan is expected to poison some dangerous people and since I'm immune to poison, they thought we'd make a good pair for this one. Dan is exceptionally good at poison-making but sometimes, he gets other people involved in small accidents with those same poisons. Now, we're not like the X-men or some weird superhero crap, because we're far from heroes.

The only one with extraordinary abilities that actually wants to help people is Cassie. I bet she'd do a great job if she had more useful powers. Our group is hired to kill some men interfering with the business of some of the Headmaster's friends. Our job ofcourse is to remove them from the equation and little miss sunshine wouldn't be able to do that so until now, she's kept in the dark regarding our missions.

"I guess this is our first ever mutant job, huh?" Daniel interjected, trying to calm both of our nerves.

Ofcourse I got more nervous because heck, I have a crush on this guy. I'm trying to hide it though but I guess my heartbeat accelerating more isn't helping. I'm just glad he can't hear it though. "I, uh, I don't think you should be calling us mutants. It's like saying we accept our abnormalities," was what came out of my rude mouth.

I swear these things need a manual. I always say the wrong things, I facepalmed myself in my thoughts as I was fastening my black belt.

Peeking at him, I saw him still looking at me, forcing a smile to lessen the awkwardness that I created. He already finished gearing up. Hell I finished minutes ago but I kept redoing my gear because I didn't want to stand here awkwardly, waiting for him to be done.

The poorly lit room did no justice in covering up the dark circles under my eyes. I bet by now he could tell I didn't want to screw this up.

I decided to lock eyes with him after deciding to stop undoing and redoing my gear. When I did, he let out a small laugh, my ears even hearing the vibrations in his throat, his deep voice resonating around the room. "You should stop being nervous. How long do you think I've known you for? We're gonna do just fine."
