The basic gist is that Dean DeBlois confirmed that 10 years passed between Toothless leaving and Hiccstrid family finding him again. So this is my version of what happened at Berk in those 10 years.
These are all just one day in the year.

1 Year---->
     It has been one year since the dragons left Berk. Berkians began to resume life; though, making many adjustments to life without dragons. Hiccup walked around the New Berk. He watched as buildings rose from the ground and all the work that was put into their home. Hiccup smiled as he watched the houses and watch towers form throughout his island.
     "Hiccup!"
     Hiccup smiled as he saw Astrid running towards him. Astrid seemed to fly into his arms, Hiccup's arms wrapping around her to stabilize her.
     "You have to see this!" Astrid said in excitment. "Berk has been working on this all year!"
     Astrid grabbed Hiccup's hand and raced up the stairs. Astrid grinned as Valka joined her in rushing to the sight where they were finally taking down the canvas around a secret project. Berkians had worked in shifts to get the job done, as well as keep Hiccup from seeing it. Astrid stopped in front and gave Sven a thumbs up. Sven nodded from his ladder and released the canvas. All of Berk stood in awe as a massive statue of Stoick stood on the circular deck.
     Hiccup smiled, his eyes watering as he looked at the base. Hiccup stepped through the crowd, who had parted for their chief, and placed a hand on the base. Inside the base was a carving of Toothless and Hiccup. Hiccup's hand was outstretched to the dragon. Hiccup felt Astrid's hand on his shoulder and he wrapped his arms around her.
     "Did you do all of this?" Hiccup whispered.
     "No," Astrid murmured back, "Berk did all of this."
     Hiccup pulled away and looked at the crowd. The crowd bowed their heads and Hiccup grinned.
     "Thank you all," Hiccup said loudly. "I can't tell you how much this means to me."
     Astrid leaned against him and Valka stepped forward. Astrid smiled as Valka looked at the couple warmly.
     "You know, I know that your father must have talked about grandbabies." Valka bit the inside of her mouth as she tried to stiffle her laughter.
     "Mom! Ca-can we get married first?" Hiccup stammered in annoyance.
     Astrid simply laughed along with Valka and Gobber.
     "Then get married already," Valka encouraged.
     Hiccup rolled his eyes, but did lean down and press a kiss to Astrid's lips.

2 Years---->
     "Hiccup?"
     "Over here Astrid," Hiccup said softly.
     Astrid peeked around the corner to find Hiccup in the closet in their house. Astrid walked over to where Hiccup was pulling at something in the top of the closet. Astrid laid a hand on Hiccup's shoulder. Hiccup looked at her and smiled. Astrid smiled as Hiccup hoisted her up and Astrid grabbed the book. Hiccup sat Astrid back down and saw the Book of Dragons in her hands.
     "Hiccup, I know you miss Toothless," Astrid said. "But he's in a better place. He's safe with the other dragons."
     "I know, but maybe I could go there, just to visit," Hiccup said.
     "Hiccup, we've been over this," Astrid pressed gently. "We can't interfere with Toothless' new life. He wouldn't interfere with ours."
     "I know, but, I just," Hiccup broke off with a cough and sat on the bed. "I just need to know he's okay."
     "I'm sure he's fine. He's stronger than all of us," Astrid reminded.
     "You're right," Hiccup admitted. "So what's the news around Berk?"
     "Well, you haven't missed much," Astrid said. "Just the usual, Sven's dancing with his sheep. Mulch is still wondering if Bucket will ever get the animals correct and the Twins are off doing Thor knows what. Snotlout is busy training the new warriors and Valka is teaching the youngest members about dragons. Speaking of your mother, she said something interesting the other day."
     "Do I really want to know?" Hiccup asked, lying down.
     "Well, first you should be resting. You won't get better by rumaging around and not staying out of trouble." Astrid placed the cool cloth over his head again. She passed Hiccup a cup of water. "Anyways, your mother was wondering when you would have an heir."
     Hiccup coughed and spluttered. "But we just got married a few months ago."
     Astrid shrugged. "Apparently that's the news around Berk."
     Hiccup groaned and laid a arm over his eyes. Astrid smiled and crawled next to him. Her white cloak was laid over the chair and Astrid traced patterns over Hiccup's shirt. Hiccup moaned again and Astrid sat up.
     "Need something?" Astrid asked in concern.
     "I need to sit up," Hiccup moaned. "By back hurts."
     Astrid gently pulled Hiccup up and rubbed his back. Hiccup smiled and leaned against his wife, slowly falling asleep listening to her heart beat. Astrid smiled and held him as he slept. She shifted to where she could lean against their headboard and closed her eyes. Unbeknownst to the duo, Valka walked in a few minutes after they fell asleep. Valka relished in the peaceful moment and smiled.
     Berk might have an heir before they knew it.
