Soon enough, they found a place far enough from the dark clouds so they wouldn't be crushed during their sleep by an attack, and they found a stream using the map. The plains were flat, with the dark green grass blowing in the small gusts of wind. The moon was especially bright, it's reflected light shining on the water made for a beautiful display, but Dela's mind was elsewhere. She was nervous. She felt nauseous and her palms were sweaty. She sat down next to the stream and sipped some water. With each sip, she took a deep breath to calm down. She then rinsed her face and began to get lost in her thoughts. All the while, Kato was silently watching her. She seemed extremely stressed. He wished he could give her some better sleeping conditions, since they would have to sleep on the bare ground. They also had nothing to eat, since Prae ran off with the bag. At least they had water.
Kato sat down on the grass and looked at the stars, which were on full display. Dela slowly got up, and walked over to him. Kato looked up and smiled at her. He was trying his best to give her hope, or happiness, since he was the only one who could support her right now.
"So.." Kato began.
Dela immediately smiled. "He sure says so a lot." She thought. "So.." she responded.
Kato looked at her and thought about a topic of conversation. He didn't want to talk about anything serious, but he had no choice. "So.. Prae huh..? Have you known her for a while?" Kato started.
Dela smiled and looked at the stars. Even though destruction was happening everywhere else, this one spot seemed to be untouched. "Yeah.. I've known her since kindergarten. She's a real hot head.. but I love her." Dela began. "She tries to be there for me all she can, but the way she does isn't right. She just loves to argue, and that causes more problems than it solves. The way she was running too... she was in so much pain, but she still ran on her injured foot just to get away." Dela looked down, with tears welling up in her eyes.
Kato looked at her. "It wasn't your fault. Hasn't she been angry at stuff lately? She was just overwhelmed." Kato reassured. "I'm determined that you'll be able to reunite with her. I also know that you'll defeat Darlock."
Dela frowned. "You're so driven.. unlike me. I'm a coward." She murmured.
"That's not what I saw back in Illian." Kato replies.
"I-I guess your right. I did save Prae's foot." Dela smiled.
"I know you can save the world too." Kato says.
Dela looks at him. "I know we've only known each other for a couple hours, but it seems like I've known you my whole life. You've been so nice and open to me. You always reassure me, and make sure I'm happy... I just wanted to say thank you... thank you so much. I know I couldn't have gotten this far without you." Dela replies with tears eyes.
Kato is shocked that he helped her out that much. "Of course.." he replies, looking down. "Remember when we were endurance training and I was speaking but couldn't get the words out?" Kato whispers. Dela nods. "What I was going to say is.. I wanted to be a track star, but that was before my... older sister died."
Dela was shocked. She had no idea. "Kato.. I'm so sorry."
Kato closed his eyes. "It's alright. It happened 6 months ago, in a fire. My mother loved her so much. She complained that my dad didn't give her the mental support that she needed. My dad was really busy with the business, and I'm sure he regrets not giving her enough support. 3 months after my sister died, my mom left. My dad was devastated. The only thing he had left was me and his business.."
Dela gasped. "So when the business closed down.." she murmured.
Kato nodded. "He completely lost his mind. He was so depressed.. so he left too. He promised he would come back after he traveled the world to clear his mind... so I was left alone to fend for myself. I think he was so caught up in his own problems, he completely forgot about me. He left today. When I met you and Prae, I was so upset and lost, I didn't know what to do. I'm glad I met you." Kato smiled.
Dela looked down at the grass. "My... my.." Dela stuttered. "My mother died today." When she uttered those words, a wave of despair that she's been keeping in all this time released itself. She cupped her face in her hands and weeped. Shocked, Kato have her a tight embrace. He was the only one who could comfort her, and he was not going to let her go through this alone.
"I honestly can't thank you enough" Dela cried. "My mother was always somebody I could turn too.. but she didn't know exactly how much I struggled to maintain confidence. You helped me so much in a short period of time. I no longer feel anxious when I need to use my power, and I have so much faith in myself now."
Kato just listened and pull her close. "My mother would only know what I told her. She couldn't come with me to school and she how I was being bullied. Even Prae couldn't help much because of her hot headed personality." Dela sobbed into Kato's chest. "You're the only one who's cared enough to actually help. Even though we've only known each other for a couple hours, you have done so much." Dela cried. Kato just smiled.
"It's the least I can do." Kato whispered. Slowly, Dela's sobs turned into soft crying, and then it stopped. She fell asleep. Kato looked down at her and smiled.
"I'll never let anyone hurt you again." Kato whispered, and soon, he too fell asleep.
