I have no idea how long I ended up sitting with my back against the door, but when I finally looked up again from my hands, the daylight had scurried in through the damp windows, illuminating the scuffs on the floorboards and the tattered chair by the wall. The bed is a trainwreck.
Looking over at the window with heavy, scratchy eyes, I see the thunderstorm has finally made its way out from these woods. I sniffle and look at my hands, smothered and cracked with dry mud, seeming to still be intact. I smile and look up, my lip quivering as I think of last night.
Wait, did all of that actually happen?
Jumping to my feet, battered in dirt and the door covered in it as well as the floor, I look through the tiny window at the top of it and out the sculpted glass. I see the grass and trees covered in morning dew. Turning my head and pressing my fingers against the inside of the door, I look around and see a truck. Just like the one from that nightmare.
I can feel my knees shaking. Looking down, I see they roughly are.
Moving my way over to the kitchen I place my hands on the counter and look down into the sink.
I can't believe he just abandoned me like that.. I thought he would think more of me than that. To just leave..
Suddenly I hear a loud bang, which makes me nearly jump out of my skin as I turned around.
As I watched the room, I kept my breathe trapped by my lungs, scanning the room for perhaps something that had fallen.
A moment passes and I decide to shift my feet. Precisely as I do this, another bang occurs. I run to the corner and huddle myself in my knees against the dust of the floor. What if he's back. Oh God no, oh god no.
The next bang sounds as though its coming from the closet. I can feel myself hyperventilating as the bangs become more aggressive. He's in the closet! Oh god oh god oh god why!
I scream at the top of my lungs as I sit there, body still exhausted from last night. My cheeks are hot and I feel as though the tears falling on them are sizzling as I scream and start rocking myself in the corner, staring at the closet door. "NOO!!!!!" I scream to the banging.
I whine and keep rocking, not taking my eyes off of that door. "GO AWAY!!"
Suddenly the closet door swings off of its bottom hinge and doddles there by its top one. I put a long piercing scream into the air, it finally decrescendoing as I see the familiar tall man trudge out, face black and blue, he looks at me with a cheeky smile and stumbles to hold himself up.
I'm just in shock. I have no words to speak, no air to breathe, I just look at him, a cold tear chilling my chin and descending to my thigh.
Doing nothing but observing him with an open mouth, he walks to me and sits next to me, still smiling.
I grit my teeth, the heat of anger rushing through my head, though I decide to stay silent and scoot away from him.
He speaks softly as he reaches out a lanky arm to me. "Hey-"
"WHAT?" I snap back at him, my face clearly red. I sit against the wall, ignoring the fact I'm still nude.
"What?" he asks.
What the hell do you mean what. You just abandoned me you fucktard!
"How could you?" I continue to snap, I can feel tears beginning to emerge again.
"How could I wha-"
I quickly reach my arm over and slap his blue cheek. "You know what!"
I can feel a flash of cold run across my heart and forehead as I do this. I can't believe I slapped him. Well, he deserved it.
