      ~Hozier's POV~

As I was walking out of the front door, I decided she would be much safer if the door was locked. I dug the stack of keys out of my front pocket and turned the lock, then returning them back into my jeans.

I took a deep breath and paused a moment before walking around the front corner of the house and in the direction of the nearby stream, by boots being trudged heavily through the wet mud. My hair was now clinging to my head as the rain continued to effortlessly fall. I didn't mind it though, it was the rainy season after all.

The thunder rumbles under the earth as I make my way down the hill, climbing and finally taking a seat on the branch of the old black thorn tree laying across the waterway.  Watching the stream, the small waves push itself through little cracks between the rocks, the water flowing heavier from the downpour atop the trees.

The thunder continues to sing and the lightning dances along after it, I enjoy listening , but I can't help but think about how I had left so abruptly.

I watch the stream a bit more, then turn my head towards the cabin, which is sadly invisible due to the torrential downpour. I look back to the stream and rest my chin on my fist, thinking out loud, though I could hardly be heard. "I should go back and get ... but, it would also put both of us in danger." I puff a sigh in dismissal. "I'm not the one who'll get the worst end of it, though.."

I groan and stride my long legs to reach the fallen branches and hop back down to the mud, beginning to head up the hill. I stumble as I begin to climb up it and curse to myself when I slip down a few feet. "Fuck."

Finally reaching the top of the hill a couple rough minutes later, I can see the cabin, and his truck. My eyes widen as I start running towards the cabin, the rain still heavily pouring down on me in the darkness. A wave of heat flashes over me as I think about what he could have already done while I was away.

Reaching the cabin door, I panic as I dig the keys out of my front pocket, my hands shaky, I open the door and push myself inside in a fit.

Scanning the darkness, I find her laying there on the ground. I rush to her and raise her head; she's unconscious. He must have already been here. But wait, if he was already here, then why was the door locked-

I turn my head towards the door and receive a heavy blow to my ear. I instantly fall to the floor and turn over on my back, my ear is bloody and ringing but I can hear with my other one as he speaks to me with a smirk on his lips, the clanking of a large wrench dragging along the wood floor as he circled me.

"Told ya I'd be back."

I reach up and press my palm against my now bloody deaf ear, raising my head to watch him move his way over to her. I grunt as I sit myself up and struggle to get off the ground, which he quickly resolves with a boot to my ribs. Down I went, again.

Stumbling to the floor in a quick manor, I attempt to get up again. "You can't have 'er." I puff out, realizing I sounded more ill than I wanted to let off. I push off the red floor and turn my head his direction.

"And why not? It's not like you have much use for her now, do ya?"

I stood and held my ear again, then glancing at the blood on the floor, and darting my eyes back over to him without so much as a word. I made my way over to her and shoved him away with my shoulder, picking up her bare body wrapped in the blanket off of the ground and softly laying her on the bed, brushing the hair out of her eyes with my clean hand and admiring her sweet honey suckle skin.
