CHAPTER 6
BLOODY PIRATES
"Jack Sparrow," I say harshly as I enter the room of the prison cells. I see him leaning against the edge of his cell, his hat over his face.
I walk to the bars and he looks up at me, smiling and closing his eyes again. "Come back for more, darling?" He smirks.
Will lifts his eyebrows.
"Cute," I snarl. "Jack we need your help."
"It's humorous how that works, isn't it?"
"You have a big mouth for talking to two people that can get you out if this cell, pirate."
He eyes me.
"You're familiar with that ship, The Black Pearl," Will says.
"I've heard of it," he responds.
"Tell us why they want this and we'll set you free," I say holding up the medallion.
He frowns. "And how can I trust you'll do so, princess?"
"We are not the pirates, so it will be our word to be trusting," I threaten.
"I do not think your beloved fiancé would be too pleased about you setting free a pirate lord, love."
"'Fiancé'?" William asks in confusion.
I look at him with my mouth open, about to speak but instead I change the subject. "Either die at the gallows tomorrow or be set free by us and help to defend the port. Choose Sparrow."
He sighs and stands up, adjusting his hat. "How are you two to get me out?" He throws his hands up in back down. "The key's run off."
I suppose he means the dog holding the keys to the cells in his mouth that is no longer in sight.
"I helped build these cells," Will says. "These are half-pin barrel hinges." He retreats and grabs a long bench, tucking the legs into the bars and holding the bench at an upward angle. "With the right leverage and the proper application of strength, the door will lift free."
"Tell us about them, Sparrow," I say.
"Very well then... Captain Barbossa and his crew are miscreants sailed from he dreaded Isla de Muerta. They, in finding of a chest of Aztec gold coins, became cursed after taking them, showing their true forms as the undead; immortal, outlaws of the sea that plunder and steal for their own pleasures." With a smile I can see a golden tooth. "Sounds like a blessing than a curse, aye? Well wrong. They cannot eat, nor drink. They cannot feel anything of comfort but merely discomfort, living as miserable beings of hell on earth. Barbossa believes that in the return of each gold piece and the blood to be repaid, they can be rid of the curse once and for all. That is what they are up to, love." He squints.
"So they just want to rid of their curse?" I ask.
"So we are to give them this?" Will asks.
"I don't see the harm. If we give them what they want they will no longer be immortal."
"Aye," Sparrow says leaning with his fingers in the bars. "But would you really want to give these hostile, demons of hell what they want?"
"What choice do we have?" Will asks.
"There is a number of things we can do if you are willing to listen," Jack smirks.
"A number of things that involve putting the people of this port in danger?" Will asks.
"Someone is going to die no matter what we do, mate."
"He's right. And we're running out of time," I say.
