Apollo glanced at his reflection in the mirror, studying it ever so intently as if it were something that he had to have memorized.
Klavier was going to be here any minute now, he was all ready but had to make sure that he was looking good, or at least better than he did the first night that they had met.
That suit had really done him no favors, so he tried to convince himself that if Klavier was okay seeing him like that, he'd be fine with anything. But, even that didn't work.
He was convinced that Klavier was just pitiful deep down, that was why they were going on. He couldn't possibly like him or find him interesting, that was way off the key of possibility.
Klavier texted that he was about 5 minutes away, and Apollo nearly jumped out of his skin.
He had been able to get ready without anyone in the house noticing or casting any suspicion, now was the hard part: getting out.
It wasn't that he didn't want them to know he was going out, but they would bombard him with questions. He could lie and say he was going with Clay and Athena, but he wasn't a good liar and his family would knew he wasn't telling them the truth in mere seconds.
He peeked out. His mother was probably cooking or something of the sort, because he heard her in the kitchen. He smelled cookies. So, she was actually baking.
Trucy was probably in her room on her phone, nothing new. She was the one Apollo was REALLY scared of running into. Trucy was nosy, and wouldn't stop until she got all of the details. She was even harder to lie to than his mother, which was saying something.
He waited for Klavier's text, and once he received it, he went running. He was sure that he looked ridiculous, treating this like a secret mission, but he couldn't risk anyone seeing him.
Once he got outside, he slowed down, trying to look less crazy. He couldn't embarrass himself already. He was going to do enough of that tonight. He would try not to, but Apollo Justice embarrassing himself in public was sort of a given.
He opened the backset door on the right side, Klavier was sitting on the other side. In the driver's seat was an older man, in a suit.
"Herr, Justice!" Klavier excmlaimed, his hands raised. "You made it!"
"Of course." Apollo said, smiling. "You really thought I would ditch you?"
"You can never tell with people, you know? I'm kidding, totally. But, may I ask why you were running?"
Apollo felt his face redden immediately. Great. Guess he wasn't as slick as he thought. It wasn't surprising, just disappointing. "I was... I thought I saw a spider. I didn't want to deal with it."
Klavier chuckled. Apollo couldn't believe he was such a bad liar. "Scared of spiders? I sort of am too, people normally find that odd."
"Really?"
"Yeah, apparently I don't look like someone that would fear those tiny creatures. But I guess the world is surprising, isn't it?"
Apollo couldn't help but think that he was sure that he looked like he feared everything in the world. Maybe that was an exaggeration, but it was still somewhat true. He did have a lot of fear for one person. "You don't look like the type to be scared of spiders, or anything really." He admitted.
"See, you too. Look, we don't know each other all that well. But, that's what tonight is for. You're going to learn a lot more about me, and see that I'm not the badass you fantasize I am."
"Fantasize? I never-"
"Anyway, this is my driver. Xavier. You'll probably be seeing a lot of him."
