Proposal?Your P.O.V
I paste back and forth inches away from the door. I wanted to walk in, but my nervous prevented me from doing so. I exhale for the third time and walk closer to the door. I raise my hand to knock. As my hand inches towards the door, I freeze.
"I can't do it," I groan as I move my hand away. I back away and rest on the wall for support. I cursed myself silently. I wanted to tell Adrian that I couldn't marry him, but how when I was so scared to face him? I loved Adrian, but not in that way, not the way I once felt. Things change and I've changed. I didn't want the responsibility to be queen and I definitely didn't want to be married to someone I didn't truly love.
The door to the throne room slowly cracks open. I think to run, but I don't. I had to face Adrian now and tell him. I wasn't gonna keep this hidden any longer. I had to face this fear. I looked down at the ring Ban gave me and smiled.
"(Y/n), "Adrian father King James smiles, "it's great to see you. Happy late birthday I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the party". I smile and go in to hug King James. He's caught off guard, but hugs back. Adrian makes a ironic grunting sound behind his father. I peer over at him and he smiles admiring at us, "oh well I guess I should leave you two. Seems like you've got plenty to discuss," King James smiles as he heads to his study, but turns around back at us,"(Y/n) that young lady that healed me, where is she? I would like to thank her personally."
I thought for a moment then figured that they should be still at the Boar Hat passes out," She should be outside the walls. If you look north there should be a tavern. She'll be there."
He smiles and nods his head remembering the direction, "I'll go there immediately."
"Farther, you've just got well. Are you sure you should head out so soon?", Adrian questions worriedly.
"Nonsense son. I'll be fine. I'll just grab a few knights and be on my way, "King James smiles showing that his decision was was made. He turns to leave us as I turn to face Adrian. He smiles softly and steps aside motioning me in.
"I'm sorry I didn't make it to the party," Adrian spoke as he closed the door softly behind me. I smile reassuringly.
"It's okay you wanted to be with your father. It's understandable, but...", I started, but he quickly interrupts by pulling a medium sized diamond ring out. I felt my heart turn flips inside.
"I've been saving this for the day I would choose to marry. That day is today, I've chosen you (Y/n) (L/n) would you marry me?", he spoke as he gets down on his knees holding the ring out in front of me. I won't deny, it was a beautiful ring, but if my heart wasn't true to myself I would have said yes in a heartbeat and took the ring, but it was and I turn away from him and the ring.
"Adrian just...just stop okay? I can't marry you",I cried, "it wouldn't be right."
"What do you mean?", he says as he walks up behind me and places his hands on my shoulder. I pull away distantly, "you thought on this?"
"Yes," I say turning to face him, "long and hard and I can't Adrian."
"Why? Why can't you marry me?", he looks at me desperately. I feel tempted to give in, but I stay true.
"Adrian...", I sighed.
"(Y/n) why can't you tell me? We...I thought that you felt the same way for me as I do towards you. We," he says as he grabs my arms and stares me deeply in my eyes,"where meant to be don't you feel it?"
I shake my head and he frowns disappointedly, "I can't do that Adrian. I just can't."
"Why? Is it because of that guy?!", he yells.
