On the carriage ride back to my apartment, Lillian was quiet. I softly read her mind. She was still visualizing the faces of the hybrid children.
Lillian blurted out, "I wonder if they'll ever have a normal life?"
"I don't know darling," I answered.
I helped Lillian out of the carriage and then we walked up the stairs to my apartment. I unlocked the door and it swung open. My mouth fell open as most all of my belongings were gone.
"What the hell, I've been robbed," I said as I threw my hat at the hat stand that wasn't there. My hat landed on the floor. Lillian started to laugh. I didn't find anything funny.
"Is there anything they didn't take?" I hollered as I looked in all the rooms. None of my weapons had been touched. Lillian was bent over laughing hard.
"I don't know why you're laughing?" I said.
She pushed back her laughter and asked, "don't you remember that you wanted to move in with me?"
"Yes, but I was wanting to help," I replied.
"I know, but we only had the working crew for only one more day and Cindy and Mindy over saw everything. I even told them not to play with your weapons," Lillian said with a smile.
I looked at her and I couldn't be mad at such a sweetheart like Lillian. Just then she fluttered her eyes at me and I smiled.
"It had slipped my mind and I thought the worst," I said as she hugged me.
"There is so many reasons that I love you Josh," she said.
"I love you too sweetheart. We can get the rest of my stuff tomorrow," I said.
I hailed a carriage and we rode over to my new home. The mansion looked different now that I was going to be living in it. I had never noticed any of the beautiful stone work on the outside, or that it had a lovely flower garden behind it.
The carriage stopped and let us out. Lillian grabbed my hand.
"Welcome to your new home. Are you ready for a tour?" she asked.
"Sure," I said as I walked next to her.
She brought me to the backyard gazebo. The flowers perfumed the air with their sweet fragrance. There were several places to sit down, but we were on tour. Next we walked through a door that led to what looked like a dungeon. There were iron bars with lock and shackles with chains attached to the floors and walls.
"Have you ever had to use this place?" I asked.
"No, It was here when I bought the mansion. I figured it held slaves from a long time ago," she answered.
I examined the clumps of gray hair on the floor and saw the deep scratch marks on the brick wall by the barred window.
I looked at Lillian and asked her," did you know that this is where they held their werewolves?"
"Werewolves? No, I thought that they kept their dogs in here." Lillian said.
"I wondered what other type of secrets this place holds?" I said.
We walked up a flight of stairs until we arrived at the kitchen area. There were all types of pots and pans that hung from the ceiling. Most all of them had dust on the top. Over to the right were several stoves and an open pit with it's own chimney.
"I imagined at one time this place was crowded with servants cooking and preparing food for all the people that lived here," Lillian said.
"This place is really huge." I said.
"It took me a while to discover some of the secret thing about this place." Lillian said as she led me into a secret passage off of the kitchen.
