Thalia didn't want it to be true, but she had to find out for sure. She decided to take a pregnancy test. She set it down on the counter and had to leave to room for ten minutes before she built up the courage to look at it. Two lines were looking up at Thalia when she walked into the bathroom. She sunk to her knees and leaned her head against the wall and tears filled her eyes. Her biggest fear was coming true. She didn't want to become her mother, have a baby when she was young and pawn it off on a family member.
After pulling herself together she went to visit Aunt Dottie. As soon as Dottie saw the expression on Thalia's face she pulled her into a tight hug.
"What's wrong, dear? Is it that boyfriend of yours? Did he hurt you?" Dottie asked, kind at first, then frantically.
Thalia shook her head. "It's not that, Aunt Dottie." She took a couple of deep breaths and composed herself. "I'm pregnant," she said, her voice breaking into sobs.
Dottie led Thalia to the couch and made some tea. After Thalia had calmed down she asked: "does he know yet?"
"No," Thalia answered. "You're the first one to know."
Dottie nodded and handed Thalia her cup. "What are you going to do with it?" Dottie asked.
"I'm going to keep it. I can't be like my mother, after what she put me through, no offense. You were a better mother to me than she could have, but still." Thalia began to ramble.
After a while of talking the clock struck eight.
"Thanks for this chat, Aunt Dottie, but I have to get going now. John's band is having a gig tonight and I agreed to go." Thalia explained.
"Dear, why don't you stay here for a bit longer. I'm not sure going to a concert is the best thing for you right now." Dottie brought up.
Thalia sighed. "I suppose your right. I guess I can just meet up with them after. I'm pretty sure there are supposed to be drinks at Freddie's afterward."
Dottie chuckled.
"What is it?" Thalia asked.
"You won't be able to have any more of those, young lady," Dottie said.
"Oh gosh, I forgot about that," Thalia said. "I might need a couple more tips about, Well you know, all of this. If you don't mind."
Dottie smiled. "I don't mind at all, dearie."
For the next couple of hours, Thalia asked her aunt all of the questions she had about pregnancy and Dottie gave her niece all of the tips she knew. There was some crying interspersed throughout the conversation, but they got through it.
Around ten Dottie had begun to feel tired and said she would be going to bed soon. She offered Thalia the chance to stay the night, but she politely declined. She didn't want to disappoint John and not show up when she said she would.
She went home and got ready for the night. She put on some makeup to cover up the redness from her frequent crying. She also put on a dark blue dress. She knew it was a bit chilly outside, but wanted to keep wearing dresses until it was absolutely too cold to wear them, or they wouldn't fit her anymore. She also wore a pair of platform heels to make the look.
After getting ready she went to Freddie's apartment. She had been there once or twice before, so she knew how to get there, but she soon realized that the heels were a mistake because Freddie's apartment was a lot further than John's.
When she got there, John noticed her right away. "Thalia!" He called out as he rushed over. "Where were you?" He asked.
"Sorry, John. I was with Aunt Dottie. There was a bit of a family matter that we had to discuss." Thalia said, just as she practiced in her head on the way over.
"Is everything alright?" He asked worriedly.
"Yes, yes everything is fine," Thalia reassured him with a smile.
John held her hand and walked her over to the rest of the band. They were all happy to see her. She sat down on the couch next to Brian, who offered her a beer. Thalia politely declined. Roger, Brian, and Freddie all looked at each other. Thalia looked at this interaction with confusion. She quickly realized that the boys had somehow figured out that she was pregnant. She made a 'what do you know?' face at the boys. They all sort of nodded.
She put her hand on John's knee. "Dear, could you grab me a glass of water?" She asked.
"Of course," John said softly before standing up and going to into the kitchen.
"How did you figure it out?" Thalia asked the boys fiercely, the question more directed at Brian and Freddie.
"It was actually Roger who had figured it out," Brian said.
"When you were feeling nauseous at the show the other night I remembered that you and Deaky disappeared during his party and you stayed the night, which of course could only mean-" Roger was interrupted When John came back with a glass of water.
"What are you lot talking about? It seems pretty important." John said as he sat down and handed the water to Thalia.
"Would you mind getting me some ice too?" Thalia asked John. He took the glass again and went to the kitchen.
"Anyways," Roger continued. "Just now confirmed it. It was Brian who came up with this plan, and it turned out to work."
Thalia sighed and put her head in her hands. "I don't know what to tell him," She said, her voice muffled.
"Don't worry, darling. Everything will end up just fine." Freddie reassured her. "And how about the rest of the night we won't drink too, so you won't feel left out."
Roger spoke up. "Wait a minute I never agreed-"
Brian hit his arm.
"I guess just this one night," Roger finished.
John came back with the glass of water, this time complete with ice, and handed it to Thalia.
"Deaky, would you mind fetching all of us some water too?" Freddie asked. "None of us are in the mood to drink tonight."
