CHAPTER 18

 

JAI P.O.V

 

But why would someone ever cheat on someone they ‘love’? Why? If you aren’t happy why don’t you just leave? It’s so much easier that way. These were the only thoughts that were running through my head for days.

“What are you thinking about?” Violet asked when we were sitting at the beach.

“Ariana.” I answered her truthfully.

“What about her?” She asked.

“I just want to know why she didn’t just leave me if she wasn’t happy. Why did she have to cheat? I wouldn’t have been as hurt if she just told me she didn’t want to be with me.” I said. I knew I shouldn’t be dragging Violet into it but I wasn’t sure who else to talk to. She was the only one who listened when someone had a problem.

“Maybe you should get revenge.” She said shrugging as she read her book.

“Like what?” I asked her.

“Well you have to be seen with someone she hates. Who does she hate?” She asked as she placed the bookmark in her book and placed it on the towel next to her.

“I don’t know.” I said before I even thought about it. “Do you remember that girl back home that I used to be friends with? Danielle?” I asked her and she nodded her head. “I used to like her.” I said.

“Call her up.” Vi said giggling. She loved stuff like this.

“I haven’t talked to her in months. She probably doesn’t want to talk to me.” I said looking over at Daniel and Beau who were building a castle that Violet started but never finished.

“You’ll never know until you try.” She said handing me my phone. “If you don’t do it, I will.” She smiled at me before heading over to Daniel. She sat in his lap while Beau worked on the castle.

“What if she doesn’t like me?” I said outloud. I just wanted someone to make me happy and I knew she made me happy when we were younger.

‘Hey. Is this Danielle?’ I texted the number I had saved as her.

‘Yeah. Who’s this?’ She texted me back almost instantly.

‘It’s Jai.’ I answered her. I could hear her smile through the next text.

‘Hey OMG! How are you?’ She asked.

‘I’m good. How are you?’ I asked her. The conversation went on for hours. It felt right.

 

*VIOLET P.O.V*

 

My brother have this thing about keeping me happy but they don’t keep themselves happy. I have other people to keep me sane and to keep me happy. They didn’t always have to do it. I could handle myself. I was about to turn 17 and I needed to be able to do some things on my own because eventually they wouldn’t be there to make sure I was alright.

“You alright?” Daniel asked as I sat myself on his lap and I nodded my head.

“Jai is texting a girl and I decided to leave him with his thoughts.” I smiled at him. Beau had left to go and swim with Hazel so it was me and Daniel.

“What do you want for your birthday?” I shrugged. I was already 17 but some other things had popped up so we never did anything but in a few days we have some time off and the boys promised me we would go and do something.
