Two
I was considering two things at this point:
One: Whilst recapping my life I realised that way too much of it had been spent in school.
Two: I should've really written my will whilst I had the chance.
"Blade!" A cheerful voice shouted. "Stop trying to kill the students!"
My attacker didn't lower his gun. "But she's human."
"Yes, yes," The man who was rapidly approaching us (but not rapidly enough for my taste), beamed. "That's why you mustn't kill her. She's very important."
"Yeah, Blade," I snapped, looking up at him.
The boy holding the gun gave me a glare that could've melted rock.
If he hadn't been trying to kill me then I'd have immediately been captivated by his dark brown eyes, Hispanic colouring and jet-black hair.
As it was, I guess I kind of stared.
"Why were you trying to kill me?" I asked.
"That's my problem." He said.
"No," I said. "It's kinda mine."
"Hello, hello!" The man who had saved me reached us in a rush. He looked like he was in his early thirties with flyaway brown hair, glasses and dark green eyes, wearing a long brown trench coat and a striped red tie. "You must be Ella Lawlette." He held out a hand. "I'm Simon Brown, a teacher at Fenson Heights."
"Hi." I shook his hand. "Can YOU tell me why this guy was about to kill me?"
Simon laughed. "Oh, don't mind Blade."
"Yeah, well, I kind of do."
"He's a hothead."
"He tried to kill me."
"Quite. Now let's get you along to the school, shall we?"
"Or I could just get on the next plane home?"
"I suggest you follow orders, little girl," Blade drew his gun out again to remind me of it's presence.
"Don't be violent," Simon tutted. "We don't want to scare her!"
Um, too late.
"Listen," I ran to fall into step with Simon. "I need to talk to you about being enrolled here."
"Oh?"
"I shouldn't be."
"That kind of our decision, wouldn't you say?"
"Well, you see...my average at school is a minus number."
"I see."
"I don't do any sports."
"Right."
"I send my teachers to hospital."
"Good gracious."
"You're not listening to me, are you?"
"I see."
"Hey!" I shouted, stopping in the middle of the road. "Why do you guys want me at your school?!"
Simon turned to look at me whilst Blade brooded in the background (a typical reaction for guys like that).
"Ella," Simon said. "What we're interested in is your legacy."
"What?" I blinked. "Like my mom?"
"Almost." Snorted Blade.
I glared at him.
"Well, what we're interested in even more is your great-great-great-great grandfather." Simon amended.
I still didn't get it. "But he's dead."
"Yes." Simon said patiently. "But do you want to know what his name is?"
"I...guess..."
"Abraham Van Hellsing."
