6th grade science fairEstella will never forget the day that her childhood was changed forever, the day that her second family was gone. The day she lost her best friend...
She knew that her life would never be the same from that moment on. But her pain was nothing compared to the dirty blonde haired boy that was still in the principals office, just as she had been no less than two minutes ago.
Although only at the young age of 11, Estella could understand very well what was going on at the time. Less than 30 minutes ago they were playing in the cafeteria, excited about the various teachers coming to view the project they had worked so hard on for the past month. Suddenly they were pulled away from the fun they were having to hear the shock of a life time. Estella and Caspian had been friends since the very first day of first grade. Caspian dropped his lunch on the floor and Estella (despite her disdain for the action) decided to share her food. Ever since that moment they'd been stuck at the hip, until now...
When Estella and Caspian had arrived to the principals office by the guidance counselor Mrs. Smith, they were told news that no child should have to hear during this time in their lives. Caspian's parents had been in a bad plane crash while returning from a trip to Greece visiting his mom's family. To Caspian and Estella's surprise his parents hadn't survived the crash, and passed away in route to the hospital. It was at this time she knew Caspian's life would change forever, & that her life would be forever changed as well.
After the news had been presented to the two children, Estella was escorted out and was taken with Mrs. Smith to sit until her parents and Caspian's grandmother arrived.
After that day Caspian was never the same, she tried her best to comfort him. Telling him the news about the B+ that they'd received on their project; in hopes that it would cheer him up. But nothing worked. He was broken, and she could understand why. Not to long after the incident involving his parents death, she was told Caspian would be leaving America and going back to Greece where he was born. His aunt offered to take him in after the horrific news. Even Mrs. Chronis Caspian's grandmother, who Estella loved dearly was going back home for a few weeks to spend time with the family she had left. She and Caspian vowed to keep in touch, to write letters and video chat every time they could; so they would always be friends and never forget each other. But those promises were short lived.
No more than a year after Caspian left there were no more care packages and video chats every week. They lost touch. The only things left of Caspian that remained with Estella were the drawings and pictures they had from elementary school. Along with the nicknacks from the care packages, and his grandmother Mrs. Chronis who lived down the street. It was as if they were now strangers living in two separate worlds, but in reality that's what they were. Strangers with distant memories that lived miles and worlds apart, but little did Estella know that would all change in the near future.
