I only wanted to protect you,
This bracelet that I gained
Won't hide all of my regret
Won't hide all my pain.Directing his gaze onto the contents of his locker, Virgil's eyes scanned around for his books. There was several things which he needed to complete tonight, mostly his and other peoples homework, so locating the sheets and books with all the information in was needed.
He wasn't quite sure why he was taking his own work with him. He knew what was going to happen because it's what happened every time. He did everybody else's work so that he didn't have to risk being beaten up, then he would either procrastinate doing his own or pass out from sheer exhaustion. Then he'd end up either completing it on the way to school, just before the lesson or actually during the lesson; unfortunately the last option was only possible if he sat far away from the teacher.
Eyes falling onto a small item, wedged in between a chemistry folder and some sketches which he had done during moments of extreme boredom in lesson, Virgil reached in and pulled the object out, having to manoeuvre it carefully as to not drop whatever it was.
"That's odd" he mumbled, inspecting the item. It had turned out to be a bracelet; purple and black and white tartan around the majority of the outside as decoration, and a single lighting bolt painted on in gold, placed on one side where the rest of the pattern seemed to fade away. It looked like something that Virgil could find for a couple of dollars in a store, provided he looked in the right place. Probably nothing more then cheap plastic. Although it certainly didn't look like it.
"I don't recall having a bracelet in my locker earlier" he said quietly to himself, turning the object over in his hands. And examining it.
Frowning, Virgil turned back to his open locker. On the base of it, most likely having been dislodged when he had removed the bracelet, was a note. 'And there's even a piece of paper going along with it' He thought to himself. Some dedication. Picking it up, he examined the scribbled writing, although he stopped after he read the six words printed across the top as if they were a title. Lost Item For Poor Unfortunate Souls. Everything after that appeared to be instructions of some sort.
"Magical... item..." Virgil scoffed slightly, folding the paper and shoving it into his hoodie pocket. "Why does this sound so ridiculous?"
Lifting the bracelet back into view, Virgil decided that this was most likely either A's attempt at some sort of psychological attack or it was a pathetic prank which people thought would be amusing to play on him. The more he thought about it, the more those options made sense. In fact someone probably made is specially - how else would the tartan pattern match exactly his hoodie design? It was a slight disappointment to realise that the bracelet meant absolutely nothing, he could really use some magic right about now.
Virgil had become so engrossed in examining the bracelet that the moment his phone began buzzing in his bag, he jumped and had to grip onto the ends of his sleeves for a moment to calm himself down.
Swinging the bag around and off his shoulder, he dug through books and pieces of paper and pens and the occasional other item which was thrown into his bag for one reason or another, eventually reaching the bottom where he managed to locate his phone. Retracting his hand, he quickly shoved a piece of homework which had fallen out back in bag before zipping it up and throwing it back on his shoulder.
Examining the screen, Virgil frowned. Unknown number. "Hello? Who is this?" He mumbled into the phone.
"Sup loser!" Virgil froze, already feeling the voice wrap around his neck and grip so tightly that he struggled to draw in any breath. A. Closing his eyes, he could already picture the sneering expression. "Do you remember what we told you earlier? You'd better go to the park. NOW!!"
"Um.. yeah.. sorry... I'm coming right now" he replied weakly, waiting until he heard the beep which informed him that A had hung up. Only then did he begin to move.
Breathing and heart rate already all over the place, Virgil moved his hand around a bit so that the bracelet slipped down onto his wrist. He didn't know who it was from, what sort of purpose the prank had or anything, but something about the item made him feel weirdly more secure. He still knew he wasn't safe though. He wasn't even sure if it was possible to be safe anymore.
Adjusting his bag over his one shoulder, Virgil began walking down the corridor. He shoved his hands as deep into the pockets of his hoodie as they could go and kept his head down, avoiding eye contact with the swarms of people going in any and every direction on either side of him. Ironically, this was the safest way of him getting anywhere in this godforsaken school. Head down, don't draw attention to yourself. It was survival of the fittest and if you didn't want the predators to pounce on you faster then you could blink, you blended into the background.
Taking a long sip from his Starbucks cup, he watched as Virgil began walking away from him down the corridor. The park, hey? Well. If it was a fight they wanted then it was a fight they'd get. Moving his sunglasses down from the top of his head, he let them rest on his face, moving his small ponytail off from his shoulder.
"Emile? Yeah, Remy here" he said smoothly, taking another sip of his drink, the other hand resting in the pocket of his leather jacket. "I kinda need some backup. You think you can meet me by the park?"
"Yup! Coming right up!" A chirpy voice replied.
Remy smiled slightly, finishing the remainder of his coffee and tossing the cup into a nearby trashcan. Emile always did sound optimistic. A slow smirk crept across his face. It had been so long since he'd been able to do something this fun.
I only wanted to protect you,
Yet I couldn't protect me.
And the pain I felt when I let you go
I wouldn't let you see.~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~
