I only wanted to protect you,
I came when they called.
But everything was all in vain.
In the end, I was fooled. He'd gone straight to the park. No diverts, no long routes. Shortest way there and as quickly as he could manage without running. Virgil hadn't of wanted to risk anything. He'd been greeted by a large group of people, A stood at the front, arms folded and glaring despite the fastest of smirks which played across his lips.
"Just so you know" A drawled, taking a step closer to the cowering Virgil. He was hunched over, his bag having been ripped from him the moment he arrived and now lay with its contents sprawled a few meters away in the grass . "I'm gonna expose those photos to the entire school tomorrow, so enjoy your remaining time left."
Virgil's head snapped up, eyes wide. His hands were curled into fists and hidden up his sleeve. He could feel himself shaking, shaking do much that he was surprised that he was even still standing.
"W-What do you mean?" Virgil asked, voice desperate. "I've been doing everything you want! And what about our deal?!" His breath hitched for a moment and he had to take a step back to give himself room. Despite being in the park, despite being surrounded by nothing but open land, despite being alone and facing the group instead of being surrounded by them, he felt trapped. Claustrophobic. As if he couldn't escape.
"I became your toy, let you guys bully me!" He paused for a moment, allowing himself time to control his breathing. "Heck, I even broke up with Patton and stopped talking to him! What else would y-"
He was cut short as a fist connected with his stomach. Stumbling backwards a couple of steps, Virgil bent over and curled into himself. It hurt. God it hurt so much. The air had been completely knocked out of him and it took several moments before his brain remembered to make his lungs work. A sharp pain was originating from his stomach, throbbing in waves.
"SHUT UP ASSHOLE!!!"
A was breathing heavily, fist still clenched at his side. He slowly uncurled it before reforming the original fist shape, glaring down at Virgil. He spit to the side before taking enough breaths to speak, his voice a low growl.
"You and your lover boy talked so fucking loud in the restroom that - guess what? - my sister heard it outside! She's been heartbroken and everything was all your fault!"
Humming as she walked along the corridor, she stopped. There was yelling coming from inside the restroom. Weird, she thought, usually people at least tried to keep their voices down. Planning on walking past, she froze as she recognised one of the voices. Patton! Standing by the door to the room, she leant against it and listened.
She'd only ever admitted it to her brother and a couple of friends, but she had the biggest crush on Patton. Heck, who wouldn't? He was attractive and popular. Essentially perfect.
"No way" she whispered, feeling her insides burning with anger "they used to date each other?" A had told her she might have a chance. Well he'd lied. He'd fucking lied to her. He was going to be sorry for that.
"Because of you, she got mad at me and even stopped talking to me!" A yelled, taking a step towards Virgil who had now crumpled on the floor and was crawling backwards away from him. He was terrified. A looked so angry, so so angry. This was a new level of pure hatred that he'd never seen on A's face. "Are you happy now you bastard?!"
Virgil still had a hand on his stomach, the pain from it not subsiding. He wasn't sure if he could even crawl back anymore, his body had gone that stiff and his arms were shaking.
Standing over the top of Virgil, A was also visibly shaking. Although his was from anger. Pure, unrestrained, unfiltered anger. All of it being directed towards Virgil for something that he couldn't even control. Virgil looked at his hands, clenched into fists so tight that the knuckles were turning white due to lack of blood accessing them.
He opened his mouth to speak, only to discover that words were failing him. His throat had closed up completely, only allowing his hyperventilation to continue and nothing else. His breathing was so ragged and uneven simply because he couldn't get any control over himself. It took a few moments for him to register why: he was terrified. Absolutely terrified with every cell of his being.
"I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!"
The shout hit Virgil like a wave. It took a moment before he actually registered the words. Before he registered the fist being raised and now directing itself towards him.
Falling back onto his one arm, Virgil lifted the other up in hopes of protecting himself. He hunched over, curling his body up just enough that he knew he wouldn't attack his stomach again. Scrunching his eyes closed. Taking a breath. Bracing his body and preparing for the blow.
CRACK
The blow. Where was it? Where was the pain? The punches? The kicks? The yelling and the slurs and the insults and the laughter?
"Oh.. I'm still alive?" He whispered, cracking open one eye. Virgil looked over towards where A had been stood, expecting to see him stood there. Fist raised.
He didn't know it yet, couldn't see it yet, but the iris of Virgil's eyes had changed. Instead of the dull dark brown which they usually were - a murky sort of colour that resembled fog covered mud - they were a purple, piercing and bright. And in the middle of each; a small, gold lightning bolt.
Eyes widening, Virgil's mouth dropped open slightly. "What the-"
You only wanted to protect me,
I didn't know what to do.
I thought your love had faded.
Now it's me who must protect you.~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~
